EY is definitely last. Between the rest I doubt it matters much.
I'm in the AI practice and honestly it's one of our best performing, etc but I can't compare it to other firms.
At lower levels- implementations/delivery. Local roles, maybe remote, could be long term. At higher levels, a lot of 6 week POCs. AI has a tendency to kind of skip the strategy group and just say 'look, we can prove it,' then everyone runs helterskelter for 6 weeks so we can sell larger pieces of work that have a more traditional structure
Everyone uses all sorts of tools, methods, and technologies.
What are you really trying to understand :)
Are you looking to apply at one of them?
I would say:
1. IBM/Deloitte/Accenture
2. KPMG (SLIGHTLY behind)
4. EY
But, this is just what I’ve heard
Doesn't IBM hire and fire a lot for no good reason compared to others? Would personally stay away from them.
EY is definitely last.
Big D, KPMG and Accenture are not much different from each other. Not a bad problem to have.
Why do you consider EY last? Wondering bc I was looking at them
Nothing to do with analytics but Accenture seems to skimp on travel accommodations based on FB posts. KPMG and Deloitte aren't too different in terms of hotels accommodations as I've worked at both. I've actually stayed at better hotels at KPMG but that can be project budget dependent.
I'd also add that I think KPMG has a better culture, but Deloitte has slightly better benefits. Pay has been equivalent in my experience.
Some considerations to keep in mind beyond purely looking at each analytics practice.
International is tough at any big4. Frankly your best shot is m&a rather than d&a for that. It has been a while but when I was at Deloitte it was actuals for meals. KPMG is per diem below the manager level. Manager and above you can do actuals or per diem. For big clients meals, hotels, etc often ends up being negotiated as part of the MSA.
I’ve heard that benefits at Accenture are better than at KPMG. Can anyone confirm or refute?
100% agree about the firing. It’s sector specific though. I spent two years in the advanced analytics group; had a great time, worked on some really cool projects, and truly learned a lot. No one I know of was let go in my group, but unfortunately a lot of people in other groups were. Currently leaving to Deloitte for a new role
9 can be either, but more traditionally a "lower level". I'm a 9 who has done mostly selling, but that's kind of unique/uncommon. Starting on my first implementation on Monday (after 3 years with ACN)
Most 9s are on large clients that have multiple concurrent implementations. It all will depend on your initial network, of course.
McKinsey is very good firm for big data analytics consulting
I have offers from 3 out of 5 mentioned. The offers are similar and so I wanted to know which firm has the stronger big data practice. Which firm wins more ‘cutting edge’ projects? What is likelihood of being staffed in a staff aug project? Better career progression? I would be coming in at the level 9 / SA / SC level
Also curious. I was impressed with the people I spoke to. Their Data and Analytics practice seem to be growing with plenty of projects in the pipeline. Could someone at EY chime in?
Thank you @kpmg1. Which firm do you think would offer the best opportunities for international assignments, if any? Expense policy? I know it varies by project, but I think only Accenture and KPMG offer per diem?
I have friends at IBM and have heard the same about the hiring and firing that K2 said
@Accenture1, in your experience, what’s the typical scale of engagements / type of projects?
Thanks A1, which bucket would a level 9 hire fall under?
Not sure if I would be a fan if most of my work was pocs. It's a good way to learn new tools, for sure, but not a good way to hone your skills which you should be starting to do at the SC level. What kind of work are you looking to do within data engineering? Have you considered slalom at all?
