You could tell HR that you’ve been asked to do work and have done at least 8 hours of work so you expect to take an additional day of parental leave. I would also start slow walking your response. Take at least 48 hours to respond, even if it’s something quick. I’m sure most people could figure out the answer but just find it easier to contact you.
Thank you for the response - this is helpful. The last sentence is exactly what I've taken issue with. I've been getting questions regarding purely procedural issues that have nothing to do with the actual case.

Similarly email HR to enter your time for the day because you don’t have access, e.g. analyze and advise client on x (.5) type entries
It will really force the issue of you having to work during leave
Came here to say that.
I’m about to take leave at my job in NY and was told because it’s a “statutory leave” through fmla that I literally am not allowed to work. I would say something like that haha
I didn’t have access to my work email during my parental leave.
Stop working. Politely respond to the emails and say I am on leave but this person will be able to help you. I am also on leave right now and am itching to answer emails and respond to quick questions, but I know if I do it now, I'll end up working more and more if I fail to set boundaries.
Also, while on short term disability, if that is a part of your leave, you are not allowed to work at all, so be mindful of that.
