Not an employment lawyer (just a lawyer), but generally, no.
You're going to need to show some kind of discrimination against you based on a protected class or some kind of intentional mistreatment or harassment.
Sorry to hear about that, OP. Your money would be better spent on an immigration attorney. They can help you obtain proper work status, so you can select a job that fits your skills and career aspirations. Good luck!

No. This isn’t illegal. Toxic yes, illegal no.
Your visa status is very important. I know this to be a real challenge because I have had clients who have lost their visas and had to return to their home country, abroad and domestically. As a safeguard you should be doing what you need to do to be able to get your own legal status to stay here. I am not a lawyer, I am a career coach. I had a client who became a student to be able to stay here. You might want to check that out.
I am curious if your mental distress and anxiety are partially being caused because of your visa status? Are you looking for another position with a company who will honor your visa status?
Is your manager really that unreasonable that you are not able to have a realistic conversation with them? Instead of going in in a fearful manner, I suggest you go in with the attitude of wanting to improve your performance. Beginning a conversation this way will open the door for more meaningful conversation. If you go in complaining about the situation, this will not end well.
As an all things in life, we are the common denominator. What is it that you can do to improve your situation?
I hope this helps. Good luck.
Have you tried every other method of dealing with these issues? I’m no lawyer so I can’t say yes or no but I’d strongly recommend making taking legal action your last resort
Find another job. Sounds like a toxic environment, but unless you’re being treated differently than everyone else, I doubt it’d go anywhere.
Legal action?? Yes: it’s called resignation. Go find another line of work.
I think it's just a toxic workplace. It's not illegal.
Was in this boat for 2 years out of Uni. Never got a raise/bonus because I didn't meet the KPIs. I was right out of Uni so the first year I just thought I'm not good enough and worked 10-12 hours, weekends and holidays - nothing helped. Slowly I began realizing these are unrealistic expectations that cannot be achieved - quit and moved on.
Your manager makes or breaks the job - on your future interview pick the manager to work for.
I also understand that being on a work visa, "quit and move on" is easier said than done but keep applying to other jobs and stay persistent, you'll the find that manager! All the best!
Venting in fishbowl is a much cheaper alternative to a therapist or immigration lawyer 🤣
Following because I would like to know too
Let me elaborate further. I’m on a work visa and I’m afraid if I complain there will be retaliation (it’s a small company and the word will get around) and if I lose my job I lose my visa And need to leave the country within 2 weeks(i’m not on H1B). I feel like I’m trapped. It’s either this or leave the country. I’m not the only one this happens to, but I have the most to lose.
I’m so sorry you’re experiencing this. I have heard of instances like this with persons on a work visa :(
I think yes in Sweden.
Toxicity is, sadly, not a valid cause for legal action. I'm so sorry that you're going through this right now.
