Curious as to who is in this bowl. I just realized that I assumed it would be mostly women as the child rearing gets thrown in our face more, but realized that assumption is likely very wrong. - 34F, single

36M married to 37F. Two kids and another on the way. We both grew up always just wanting/ expecting kids. A couple that we are good friends with is child free all the way and as a parent, I totally get their rationale. I agree with the theme of this bowl in that if you want kids, go for it but society is too judgmental on those who don’t.

32F married to 34M. We have a house (NJ) together with great careers and really enjoy our hobbies and time together. I was upfront with my husband about my child free choice on the first date and he was in agreement and still is. He's been trying to warm me up to getting a puppy and is slowly winning, shhh. Both our immediate families are expecting children and think we'll eventually change our minds. At the same time, we've seen our social media feeds quickly turn to child posts and baby announcements as we climb further into our 30s. Definitely need more child free friends....

I vote to yes to puppies - way less expensive than kids, easier to train, and little balls of love.

Curious, SC1, what makes you feel like this is the greener side of the grass? People have always told me I’d regret not having kids, so hearing from those with kids why maybe that would consider a child free life appealing is helpful

54F...divorced and then widowed, 2 dogs, 1 cat, 0 regrets. Never wanted kids, still don't. Perfectly fulfilled without.

Sorry to hear about the loss. But your case is reassuring, I often think of myself in this situation and being regretful and wanting for human company. How do you keep yourself from regrets creeping in and any tips of a 32 year old heading down a childless path ?

My mom decided that tonight she’d confess: 25 yrs ago she told me my 1st choice college did not give us any financial aid and I couldn’t go there (so I went where we had it). She admitted I almost got a free ride but she didn’t want me to go there so she lied. I feel betrayed. Loved my school and have no regrets. Just feel manipulated.

Hi Ladies! Does anyone have good recommendations for wireless headphones that aren’t Air Pods? Air Pods don’t fit or stay in my ears (I have small ears and often have to use child-sized). Thanks!

My husband and I are planning on starting a family in the next year or two. I enjoy working, so I don’t expect to be a stay at home mom. As of now, neither is my husband. At what age(or months) did you decided to bring your child to day care. Who watch your child before then? Our family does not live close by.

I found out I was pregnant & made a deliberate decision not to reveal this news at work as I had concerns that this might negatively impact my Perf Review (unconscious bias). I informed my People Lead & HR, & specifically requested that they not share this news either. I now find out my PL has shared this information. I confronted her indicating this was not her news to share but she deflected (kept saying it would not affect PA) & inferred I was over-reacting. What would you do in my shoes?

How do you deal with draining family members? My wonderful mother takes on a LOT to keep the family life running back home (across the country with matters that can't really be helped from afar). She's stressed and every time we chat it's just an endless swell of negativity and problems - we all have our own issues and just having to listen can drain me for the week. She blows through boundaries because she needs to vent and I'm not sure how to protect my energy and still be supportive. Ideas?

Expecting our first in about 6-8 weeks. Both my wife and I work at places with strong parental leave policies. We are considering staggering our leaves (I’d take a couple weeks right when the baby is born, then go back to work until her leave runs out, then go out) to save $$ on child care. Would also have a bit of family help during the first 4-6 weeks as well. Any experienced dads think this is a bad idea?

Moms, both husband and I are nearing the end of our parental leave. We live in a two bedroom in NYC. We are thinking of hiring a nanny. The plan is that I would work from one room and husband would work from another room. We can move the changing table and pack n play in the living room, and the nanny and the baby can hang in the living room. Does this sound like a good plan?
