Why are textbooks so expensive?
I have a weird experience with KPMG India . Two weeks ago I had salary negotiation with the HR manager. He told me that the offer will be released in a couple of days but I haven't received the offer letter yet.I tried reaching out to the HR manager but didn't receive any response. Shall I take it as no?

You can easily lateral to another Biglaw firm if you want. I have seen it happen multiple times, even at the junior (nonequity) partner level. Assuming you're not unequivocally incompetent, you still have people at the firm who want to see you succeed, and will try to help you land somewhere else.
It really does feel that way. I feel like everyone around me is just killing it meanwhile I’m drowning and don’t want to appear to be the weakest or give them any impression that I can’t do the work. It’s a little paralyzing
I was pushed out of my first firm. The convo is basically like a break up: "this isn't working for us" and they say you can stay on the website for a while longer and we'll provide references. They don't want to ruin your career, they just want you gone.
DO NOT RESIGN. The goal is that you'll find a new job quickly and they give you a grace period (1-2 months typically) where you are on the website and probably getting severance. If you can't find a job you like and you've resigned, then you are out of luck. If you can't find a job you like and you were terminated (did not resign) then you qualify for unemployment benefits. I did this and was able to calmly take months to recharge and carefully plan my next move instead of rushing into the next bad fit firm.
Curious— were you able to get severance??
Several. They went to other firms or went in house. The firing process in big law makes it so that it doesn’t look like the associate was fired (externally. Everyone knows internally)

Two: 1) They were working for another company while working for the firm and 2) doing drugs at work
I did not expect it to be this… intense
A senior associate was fired from our V50 after several years (3+) of not hitting his hours.

You looking for ATL-style gossip, or reassurance that it’s not gonna happen to you? 😅
Whichever will get me some examples 🙃
When people say - didn’t hit hours- Are we talking hundreds of hours off or just below? Also, do associates that don’t hit hours turn down work?
I know someone who was told to find something else, I think they gave the associate 3 months. I think it was an issue with a partner because this person was a senior, had a small book of business, and hit hours.

Hundreds of hours, except for the incompetent associate I mentioned. They once emailed our entire group asking for work on December 15 because they realized they were like 150+ hours short. It wasn’t missing the hours there that was the problem, but the lack of judgement in that email.
I’ve seen it happen to people that have work product issues, don’t come into the office (obviously pre Covid), don’t hit hours. They typically get the “nice” version of being fired - still on the website for however long until they get another job. Also have heard of it where there was an obvious conduct issue.
One, 2018. Consistent sexual harassment.
Was it a summer associate? If so, I know which firm you're talking about 😂
