I usually dont add coworkers on social media unless they are good friends
I’ve gotten invites from co-workers that I just haven’t accepted. 🤷🏻♀️
Rising Star
Not my style to be friends with coworkers on social media
I don’t have any coworkers on social media because I post some dumb memes lol I don’t need the drama.
I only allow the ones I’m friends with outside of work or once they’ve left the firm. I did have a manager follow me on Instagram and wasn’t a fan of that
I had a strict no co workers on social media unless you leave the firm and we’re actually still friends. Just because we work together doesn’t mean I need to see what you do outside of work and vice versa.
Depends on what I post on the platform. Don’t really care if someone follows me on Instagram, because they already know what I look like and I only post pictures on that platform. But I don’t send and won’t accept friend requests from coworkers on Facebook, because coworkers don’t need to know my personal opinions, which is largely what’s posted on that platform.
That’s my personal life, which I adhere to a hard line separation from work. But say we are coworkers, and one of us change jobs, and we were close, and you want to be my friend on Facebook, I’m cool with it at that point. But never before.
My rule of thumb- only let my FORMER coworkers follow me.
A few of my coworkers (all women and all my level or below) found me in IG. It’s not my preference, but it is what it is. I mostly post meal prep and fitness stuff. Anything I don’t want them to see goes in limited stories, but that’s pretty infrequent.
Wanna know as well!
I only add the friends that I’m cool with, the ones that I can vent to at work and they vent back to me. Or the ones I’ve had real or personal conversations with. I know they won’t or “shouldn’t” judge me for what I post.
Simple solution- don’t share anything that you wouldn’t like being seen by anyone at work or otherwise. The fact is even a simple google search enables people see your pictures and post on Instagram if your account isn’t private. I actually don’t believe in posting anything on social media - if you never share, you have nothing to worry about is my philosophy.
I have some coworkers currently and other formers; I like sharing with them so they can see I have a life too - and if I was worried about what I was posting, I shouldn’t be posting it anyways IMO….
I think it varies between office cultures. At the first office I was in with my firm it was pretty common for people to follow each other because it was a very close group of people but yeah still felt a little weird
agree with what seems to be consensus... i am only friends on social media with co-workers i'm actually GOOD FRIENDS with in real life. thus they're more my true friends, than just co-workers as a 'label' ... in the past i had a few coworkers friend/follow me, after a conference or whatever the requests would come in. but at some point i removed them all (some people dont like to do that, i dont care haha) and at this point i dont add new ones. my social media is primarily family, and actual real friends (people i spend face-to-face time with, share personal things with conversationally, have a deeper relationship with) - i just dont have acquaintances and surface level type folks on my social media so it's an easy defense to make... if anyone were to ask (which has never happened) i'm prepared to say really it's just for family ... i feel like coworkers and networking level folks can be on my linkedin!
I have a few from work as friends on IG and FB. Don't mind at all because we are close at work too
I follow a bunch of my co-workers and vice versa. Tbf, it’s a very laid back office though
