I have always told newer advisors there will be a point where you get to choose what is important to you and craft your business toward it.
Probably somewhere around the 60-70m AUM mark, are you trying to continue growing and working this hard with a goal of becoming a multimillion dollar producer, or is being pickier and designing your practice toward work life balance more important to you.
I know plenty of advisors who are very comfortable netting 350-500k and only working 3 days a week.
9 yrs in private banking and 7 yrs at a wire house, i do about 50 hours a week still. I expect my assistant to do the same and be there when needed.
25 years in and work 30 to 35 hours a week a d lots of vacation. Assistant is flex time and with VOIP and remote internet I don’t care when she works.
This is not a humble brag, but we’re working 60 hours a week at least. We think of our firm like a tech start-up, requiring tons of hours up front to get to escape velocity. We just hit $400M in AUM and we probably have another $100M to go before we can throttle back.
10 years in, no staff, at a bank. Actual working hours a week are probably 30 to 35. I'm doing well and growing, but a combination of the pandemic and complacency are why my hours are lower than ever.
That’s great for you but I want to hear from people who aren’t feeling complacent.
If it works for you, great. I am curious as to what others are doing.
13 years in. 30 hours a week max. Always looking for ways to be more efficient, make more money, and enjoy life outside of work.
15 years experience and I work an average of 30 hours per week
At our firm I would definitely say there is a huge range of working hours for our advisors. They are all Indy so they do what they want and work as hard as they want. After spending 10 years building a book, you should expect nothing less than to enjoy that freedom. Efficient technology and A+ players on your team as admin and you don't have to worry how many hours they work. some weeks it will be 20 and some it will be 50.
12 years in. 80 mil AUM. About 30 hours a week on average. Some weeks less some more. It’s a great career.
