Curious, how many of you will quit or be force fired if the vaccine will be mandated in your district? I will choose to be let go or quit! Anyone else?

I believe that vaccines are a key component to maintaining a healthy society...however vaccines are only effective against certain groups of pathogens and less effective or even non-effective against others. We've known for decades that SARS viruses mutate and that natural selection will cause the virus to mutate in such a way that benefits the virus itself...such as improving its ability to infect a host which is exactly what the COVID variant is doing. Now the current vaccines are engineered in such a way that supposedly boosters can be designed and produced to meet these mutations more effectively...the problem I have with it (it sounds really good on paper) is that no one (and I mean NO ONE) understands the entirety of potential long-term effects on the human immune system. Scientists have admitted this while at the same time saying they are 'safe and effective'...only to then say we need boosters and then maybe more frequent boosters...so I will take a HARD PASS until such time as long-term data has been compiled on this new and experimental technology.

New Jersey ES 3 - Vaccines are not our only defense. Half of our population never took flu shots and lived to tell about it. Many of us believe in building a healthy immune system. I took the Moderna vaccines but I will not be taking booster shots. Cancelling people for vaccination status is something other countries do. We should not be doing that here in America.

This new dividing of our population and ignoring our immune systems is something the fake news media and CNN viewers in their arm chairs don't want to discuss. Why are so many doctors and nurses in New York and Houston unwilling to take the jab? What do they know that we don't? Maybe we should ask New York High School 9.

The data is inconclusive as to the long term effects vaccines have on our immune systems and their influence to autoimmune diseases. Booster shots should not be necessary. This whole thing is not as safe as they say so. If your Admins and school board members are all vaccinated, why are they so afraid of unvaccinated people? We never demanded students to wear masks when the flu was going around. And they are more at risk of spreading flu than COVID.

I will not quit, they will have to fire me. I love my job and I am good at it, but I am not going to give up my rights and freedoms for a politically driven, unproven vaccine

If you quit, I say good riddance. You're a danger to your community and shouldn't be allowed near kids.

How anecdotal

I got the vaccine immediately as soon as I could. My students can't get vaccinated yet, and it's my responsibility to keep them as safe and healthy as I possibly can.

Many of the students I work with have health issues that would complicate things if they caught covid. I'm not going to be responsible for their deaths.

I teach 1st grade and fell in love with my new class last week!💖🤗✂️🖍 Then on Sunday I got a call from my wonderful asthmatic non vaccinated 25 yr old son- who says “… Mom I tested for COVID a week ago- I feel miserable, fever of 102° and I’m weak, hacking cough… can you come over?” OF COURSE!!!!! ❤️ And so I have spent this week caring for him, putting ice packs around him because he can’t use ibuprofen and Tylenol doesn’t keep the fever down… making sure he eats, gets enough liquids, taking zinc, vitamin D, Mucinex and PRAYING he won’t end up hospitalized or worse. 💔 And this has caused me to gets Subs all week, my 1st graders miss their teacher, parents are upset, my colleagues are worried I’ve exposed them, all testing sites are full and I need a ‘negative’ test for clearance to return to work. All because of people like you.. spreading fear and lies about a vaccine made to SAVE LIVES. I got both Pfizer shots back on March… and it’s PROTECTING me!!! No one said science is perfect, but at least doctors are trying!!! You wait til someone YOU LOVE gets it!!!! Then we shall see how ‘tough’ and ‘independent’ you are!😡😡😡😡😡😡 Haven’t you seen all the people all hooked up to tubes on TV who BEG everyone to get vaccinated????? They REGRET listening to the conspiracies. Don’t be a sheep. Choose to quit or be let go…??!? 🤯 You are endangering people’s lives. You should be fired.

No change in rules and routines. Public health mandates go way back!
This is a public health crisis!

I agree. If you quit or push to be fired...oh well. These are the rules (in some states/counties. It’s sad, but what’s more devastating is when you need to be hospitalized. You will literally be begging for the vaccine while sick!

Get out of your head, out of your own way and get vaccinated .

Rising Star - that's their choice. tend to yourself

Or you could save yourself from all the trouble and just get vaccinated like a mature adult does.

If you don’t want issues then get vaccinated. If you can’t take basic precautions, then good riddance, schools will be safer without you.

I have a little more to add on this topic. I think that there is no need to be concerned about mandates tied to employment for multiple reasons. So many other jobs make more than education. And the job market is tremendous right now.

I actually think the only way teachers are fired if if it is a federal action, but the unions would scream. And can you imagine what the teacher shortage would look like then?

Many of these tough talkers don’t realize how many small schools exist in their states. My school cannot open if just 5 teachers call in sick because there aren’t enough subs. Imagine how quickly states would figure out a workaround. My guess is something like: sub contracts would suddenly have benefits and get teacher retirement in OK if you get some stupid federal mandate. Then the unjabbed teachers transition to being subs and the state kicks the problem down the road.

There was a tremendous financial gain to pushing through the vaccine such as lobbying, advertising dollars to news media, etc. There is no such financial component to pushing teachers out. If you think the federal government is really motivated by anything other than money or power, I have some fantastic farmland here in the hinterlands of the panhandle of OK to sell you. If you truly cannot take the vaccine due to medical insurance then you are, and have always been, exempted from vaccine mandates. In fact, mandates exist partially in order to provide greater protection to those who cannot take do not benefit from vaccinations.

I know that my opinion will probably not change the mind of others, but it is sad when we stop caring about one another and our students. I am tired of hearing the freedom excuse. This is a health crisis, not a political one. I am a science teacher and have studied the science. No, I am not a health expert but I have chosen, along with some research for myself, to listen to the health experts and not the fake news on social media. It is sad that people have to be required to do the right thing. I chose to do the right thing and get vaccinated to help protect my family, my friends, my coworkers and my students because I care about them. When my school district mandated masks, I never felt like my freedoms were being taken away but rather being preserved so that we could teach children. We all have been vaccinated for many childhood diseases and most get a flu shot each year, so this is totally mind boggling.

I am a government teacher who's god father is a surgeon and his wife is a pharmacist. I will not be getting the jab due to personal educated choices. This could change next year due to worse variant, but I am young, healthy, and was not affected the first time i got COVID. For everybody saying that the gov't has mandated vaccines for years, you are wrong. Maybe the gov't in your state has made it hard to do things without getting certain vaccines, but they do not make everyone in the U.S. get the Flu vaccine every year. Next point, the COVID vaccine is not a vaccine, a vaccine is a live or dead virus that build up your immunity and STOPS the spread of a virus. The COVID "vaccine" is not a vaccine at all. This "vaccine" only lessens your symptoms. It is a "Treatment" and is not a vaccine. I have a friend who has had the pfizer vaccine back in the spring and is in the hospital being put on a ventilator today. Also, if you want to be informed and know what your are talking about, get off of this site, and go research what other countries are using to treat Covid. Johnson and Johnson and the pfizer vaccines are banned in several countries. Also, "Ivermactin" is being used all over the world. You sheep need to quit getting your information from liberal news networks. Just because somethings used to treat an animal for something, doesnt mean it is bad for humans. Most things we use are tested on animals. Also, Decaf coffee has ingredients that are used to make Anti-freeze. If this wasn't politicized or called a treatment, I think more people would get it. But when you had News stations dogging the "vaccine" all through the election because a republican president was in office and then they switch their stories as soon as a democrat president gets in office, Noone is going to trust it or what they are told about it. And final fact, Our governments job is to keep us physically safe. They have never had the right, or care to keep us healthy. If they were worried about our health, we would have free healthcare and everyone would be able to afford their medacines. Not to mention I wouldn't trust the FDA with my worst enamies life. They approve things all the time that kill people or cause cancer. Cigaretts are FDA controlled and everyone knows they are not safe. You see commercials all the time about prescriptions that are being sued that are FDA approved. Most of your probably don't trust someone with a criminal history or a felony around your family, but if you get the Pfizer "vaccine", you are trusting a company with the largest criminal fine in history. Had that been a small company that did not have connections, the Government and the news would have made that company go back rupt and slaughter their name. Research for yourself and quit getting your facts from the news. P.S. What happened to my body, my choice. Does that end when you get a cold, but not when you are murdering something that has a heart beat at 6 weeks https://www.findlaw.com/legalblog

likeupliftinghelpfulfunny

It is not a "treatment" or it would be given to those who have covid to help them get better. It is a prophylactic preventative (vaccine) in that it elicits an immune response to prevent illness, lesson disease severity, or prevent transmission. The rest of your post was irresponsible conspiracy theories that I am disappointed reading from an educator.

likehelpful

Vaccines are truly one of the safest preventative measures we can take. Anyone who has questions about it should just talk to their doctor or a pharmacist. You know, someone who actually knows how to research

Or ... CMS12.... The simpler explanation is that you're just wrong about it. And your ignorance and the ignorance of those who believe like you do that there is a worldwide conspiracy to control citizens/reduce population/ whatever tinfoil is out there is going to cause the pandemic to go on and on and on when we could just be done with it. Hell, we could have been done with it ages ago but people are so adverse to being told what to do that they can't see 100 ft in front of themselves

Imagine if all the effort wasted on conspiracy theories and pointless, ignorant stands against public health were spent instead on doing what's best for society and the students. That's supposed to be part of the job description.

Even if the "It's experimental!" argument might've been somewhat valid in December, that was more than five billion vaccinations ago. It's safe. Get vaccinated.

I will not get the vaccine. I won't quit, but if they choose to fire me, they can. My entire family had COVID and many research studies are finding that the natural immunity is better protection against variants than the shots that are being administered and so I will count on natural immunity to keep me from catching COVID again. My husband and I both have another field of work and so we will have to count on that for income in the future if the need arises. If people have not had COVID and are more comfortable with getting the vaccine due to this, I absolutely respect their decision and can understand that.

I’m reading all of these posts about “I had COVID & I survived”. You are selfish and should not be an educator 💯 You spend your days with young people who are completely vulnerable because 1. they’re too young to GET vaccinated, 2. they’re minors who really don’t have a say beyond what their adults enforce, or 3. both. IT’S NOT ABOUT YOU. & if you’re around our youth, who are ALWAYS our most vulnerable (in addition to the elderly) you need to pull your head out of your me me me 🍑 and get the vaccine if possible (valid health/religious reasons excluded). Otherwise, please exit the career & do something with the other idiot adults who are thinking horse medicine is a safe preventative.

I think most people are troubled that there have been so many deaths and many may also be concerned that after so long, there are not better early intervention/treatment measures being explored or easily shared to avoid hospitalization. And I wonder from some of the comments on this post about caring so much for the community, getting vaccinated to protect others, etc.--- How concerned are these same people about those who got vaccinated but then died as a result of the vaccine or are now dealing with significant long term adverse reactions, and the impacts of those deaths and disability on their family members.
I'm curious if people are aware that original effectiveness data was designed to measure number of symptoms and severe disease. And that Israel was a very early very high rate vaccination country (I think 85 or 90%), had strict measures in place for vaccination status to be out in the community, etc. and have had a significant rise in cases and about the same percentage of vaccinated were getting seriously ill as non-vaccinated. Does that concern or confuse anyone? And that highly respected immunologists and virologists are concerned about negative side effects of the vaccine. Is anyone concerned that many people who are vaccinated are testing positive, with minimal or no symptoms? There does seem to be good protection of not getting severely ill or dying, but seems like vaccinated are quite able to be spreading, which was so terrible last year—that COVID was spreading by asymptomatic carriers.
And….some unvaccinated people may be unvaccinated because they had COVID before vaccinations were available. And newer data indicates immunity from infection is as good as or maybe even better than vaccination immunity. And maybe they’ve witnessed first hand a number of people who have had bad reactions from the vaccine after already having had COVID. And people who got one vaccine but had an adverse reaction and have not gotten the second shot are considered nonvaccinated……if you were one of those situations, would you be taking the 2nd or 3 booster?
Many people talk about vaccination as a very black and white, right and wrong kind of choice and place a lot of shame and blame. It’s not as simple as that. Probably the vast majority of us are caring and passionate people, it’s why we got into teaching. Can we share some of that caring to our fellow professionals and listen to people who are thinking critically about this issue and understand that it’s not the simple choice of get the shot that many make it out to be and it doesn’t mean you don’t care about others.
