Furthering education in your field of expertise is always a wise investment. If you are in USA, the PHR and SCP certs are super valuable for HR folks. Good luck, you can do it!

Thanks! I already have my PHR but felt I didn't learn that much and it was more for my resume. Definitely leaning towards a graduate certificate.

I have my MSHRM and almost to my dissertation for my DBA in Org Leadership. I think when you’re considering furthering your education it should be matched to your career goals. I’m a career veteran in HR with almost 30 years experience and both the SPHR and SCP designations. In 2012 I earned my masters degree and then started working on my doctorate in order to transition into education. For the last 6 years I have been teaching HR for certification preparation and will eventually teach at the college level. My best advice is to think about your career development. Look at the jobs that are in the geographic market that you are interested in and take a look at the ksa, competencies, education, and certs they looking for, then align your goals to those qualifications. If you need additional HR education in the present for your job, let me know the topics and I can give you some advice on the specifics. Good luck!

Hi OP - I was in a similar situation to you, non-hr undergrad. After 5 years of working I returned to education & studied for Masters in HR full time for 1 year. I’ve since completed the SPHR too. The masters was the most beneficial in my experience. Good luck! Studying is fun.

Curious how the master’s was the most beneficial?

Breaking into management in HR is difficult. I think a lot of it comes down to competition (not many management level jobs vs workers) as well as HR not traditionally being a field where talent development and advancement is often practiced.

I shifted from Consulting over to a CSM role and am finding that even though I’m in a better place culture and pay wise, I’m feeling every day social anxiety that comes with a customer-facing role, making me think I’m not cut out for this and that I should move to something more internal, like corporate strategy. My worry is if I make this type of move, a paycut will always have to follow. Has anyone else felt this and can offer some advice?

I had applied to technology audit so how much should I be prepared to talk about auditing as a service? Once again any insights will go a long way. Thank you :)

Currently working in IT audit and looking to exit. I just received an offer for a GRC analyst role that will net me a 30% increase in TC. I realize there are multiple other factors but just wondering if GRC will open up more opportunities in my future career compared to sticking it out in IT Audit? I’m pretty desperate to get out of IT Audit but I also don’t want to make the wrong move here.
