Wow this thread really makes me reconsider moving… $110K, $2300
120k, 3300. But I lived at home for a year and half of COVID so I have a year worth of that saved up already. Had to splurge after living at home for so long.

Income - $400K TC
Rent - $2200 (my share of a $4.2k unit I share with my GF)
Funnily, my TC has moved up but my rent spend has stayed the same in my 6+ yrs in the city. Started at $190K TC
Nope. I have moved around to keep spend constant :)

Chibeca (TriBeCa/Chinatown). $180k, $3k (covid negotiated), $3650 pre covid.
Where do y’all find cheap apartments like that? As someone looking to move to NYC, >90% of (studio) apartments in Manhattan seem to cost 3000+
You gotta leave Manhattan in order to find cheaper housing. Outer boroughs for sure.
And in my opinion, being a NY native Manhattan is very overrated. I remember as a kid I wanted to live in the heart of the city so badly. But I remember my mom telling me that Manhattan had the priciest rent, small apartments, and even if you do have a view it’ll be of the surrounding buildings, not an entire skyline.
Income- 190k, rent- 2k split bw me and my SO (we pay 1k each)
