I’m ending my fourth year and I’ve been in litigation with a large case load for 3.5 of those years. From my personal experience and from hearing those around me with more experience, imposter syndrome doesn’t go away for quite some time. It will definitely get better. You have to learn to ask questions, learn from mistakes, and accept yourself when you do a good job. Whatever your best skill set is, run with it.
i’m 2 months into my first firm job and i feel the same way. it’s exhausting. to be used to high achieving and have to learn how to be bad at things again is so hard. and not getting a lot of work makes it feel worse because it’s easy to feel like you’re not getting work BECAUSE everyone is running laps around you. but that’s not true.
what we are feeling sucks but it’s very normal form everything anyone’s ever told me. we will get there. just have to accept we’re starting with colors and shapes while our neighbors do calculus, for now 😭
Yes. You’ll soon learn that, just as often, the partners you’re working with have the same concerns about “am I getting this right?”
The beauty of the legal world is that there really are no “right” answers, just arguments and probabilities.
There are Chambers ranked equity partners out there who after years of practice still think they just have not been found out yet.

OP, deep breath. You jumped into the deep end with no life vest. But you’ll survive and thrive, as we all have. Take your time, go easy on yourself, learn from the mistakes you’ll inevitably make, and get a little better every day.
Yes. Very normal.
Yes, it is entirely normal! And btw, don't think that all of those people "running laps around <you>" aren't experiencing the same thing because they are in their own ways. Everyone has imposter syndrome. Even the ones with huge egos (especially the ones with huge egos).
