Typically less resources and budgets for HR/Recruiting. It can also be challenging to attract candidates to a lesser known organization and benefits are usually expensive/lacking.

Also startups have less adapted hiring practices and policies. Having recruited for both, was hard to guarantee candidate experience at smaller startups. I’d ask about their hiring practices and ask how bought in the team is on those, and how long they typically take to hire, what their standard is for updating a candidate after interviews, etc.
