I did it for a few years. It cost me my relationship.

I think the only way to do it is if you're single and are being compensated extra to keep two homes.

Why would you want or need to? If it's not for work-related reasons, you need seniority to make it work

I split my time between NYC and another city, which is further away than DC. I’m a junior associate. Happy to chat.

Non-political poll - how many non-billable hours have you logged so far this year? I’ll start: 143

Is it legal to dock pay, bonuses and/or origination payouts if billable time isn’t entered on time? Firm is threatening a 3 strike rule. Just seems off if you work for the money (it’s calculated based on rates/hours/business brought in) that they could threaten you this way. Firing? I understand that. I’m in Pennsylvania if that makes a difference.

I’m fully vaccinated with a spouse (also vaccinated) that has a mild autoimmune disease (I say mild because it’s not like chemo or something that severe). My firm has been back in office “at your discretion” since June 1. My group mostly goes in.. I’d say most people are in 3-4 days a week.

We are starting to get emails constantly about someone who tested positive and when they last accessed the building. I’m getting worried & wanna go back to WFH. Cont..

Anyone have any idea what the in house culture at Zillow is like? SO is convinced they work 9-5 no weekends and >$200k plus benefits and options. I just can’t fathom this being true anywhere for a 6-8 year attorney position. Thoughts?

Any thoughts on Phillips Lytle? If you could please provide insight on culture/billable requirements? Thank you.

A naive question but…why is an in-house role “easier” and so sought after? Bedsides no billables of course.

I’m undergoing C&F in another state. My life is rapidly changing jobs, apartments, more bar admissions, other really not relevant things but I find myself making monthly amendments to keep the Bar updated of these changes. How much of a red flag is this.

Anyone a JAG attorney in CA? I’m hating law firm life SO bad and would love to pick someone’s brain!

A founding partner who comes in once a week usually likes when we check in with him and just chat for a couple of minutes. During my conversation with the partner he asked me about what I think about X political figure (on topic because it was during the midterm chaos). I took as harmless but curious on peoples thoughts on partners asking about their associates political beliefs.

How the bleep does anyone find a way to even try to get a job to leave private practice when you’re barely surviving each day with billable work? If you successfully found a way job hunt while fully employed how did you do it? It’s become a huge added stressor and I’m about to break down from ALL OF IT (work, deadlines, meetings with people to do informational interviews, job apps)

I joined fishbowl a month ago and while I’ve seen a couple contentious debates but I must say I’m pleasantly surprised at how respectfully ppl comment on this app even when disagreeing. Usually anonymity on the internet brings out the absolute worst in ppl; they type things anonymously that they would NEVER say in person smh. But I really haven’t seen horrible comments here. I wonder what makes this app diff frm others?

I think I made a mistake becoming an attorney. I am way too stupid for this. As in I lack the ability to make the simplest logical decisions or rational choices. I guess it’s time to find a career more fitting my mental capabilities.

I had a law student from my law school reach out asking to speak about my former company. I said I couldn’t provide a ton of information since I don’t work there anymore but I was willing to talk. They’ve rescheduled three times. I’m honestly just so annoyed. It feels super disrespectful

Any other defense side employment litigators feel like you're working all waking hours but barely meeting your billing goals? Aside from rare depo/mediations I attend it seems I have all ".4s-1s" jumping between different matters every day.
