I was contacted by an Amazon recruiter for a remote Sr. Program Manager role. I took and passed the assessment and was moved to the hiring manager round which was scheduled for tomorrow. I got an email tonight saying that the Director of the group decided that the person must be in Seattle. I am in Austin, which is not an option. I’m disappointed! The recruiter will let me know if any remote roles come up but in the mean time, does anyone have any remote Amazon roles that they’d refer me to?

Unpopular opinion: the latest changes to H1B visa program are acceptable and ultimately serve a good purpose in the long run.

Was able to pursue fertility treatments because I wasn’t on the road M-TR. Just had my first child. Left a toxic T2 firm and started a new job last year. Got engaged and married (not a real wedding, just got it done on zoom) last year as well.
All of the things above happened within the span of a month. :)
Wow. Sounds like 2019 you would not have imagined 2021 you
Personally, 2020 has been the best year for me. I hate to acknowledge this because of how devastating it was to most people but I also feel ungrateful for joining into the hatred despite all that the year has given me. All of the following happened in just one year:
1. I had started dating a guy right before covid but because of both of our work hours, we barely got any time with each other. Our relationship accelerated because of wfh and we’ve been living together for almost a year now and it’s been the best :)
2. I finally managed to set the time aside to start and finish my CPA
3. I started cooking my meals and working out regularly - lost 16 lbs
4. I finally got the chance to get out of a toxic job because I had the time to interview for other opportunities and landed a job that offers a great work life balance, larger role and 45% pay jump from my earlier job. Overall cutting my stress level to 0.
I am traveling the country in an RV and ditched my apartment. I would have never done this if it wasn’t due to Covid and everyone working remote.
Lost 40 lbs by getting into running
Basically have had two pandemic babies (one in 2019 and one in 2020), have gotten to work from home my entire pregnancy, and spend lots of time with the little ones given no work travel and no commutes. Also took a permanent WFH position inspired by covid.
Rising Star
WFH has drastically increased my quality of life. I exercise more, I eat better, I have saved tons of money.
I’ve spent so much quality time with my family: my husband, my dog, my parents, my in laws. It’s been wonderful.
I’ve rediscovered hobbies.
My husband and I communicate better, and have spent more time together. I used to leave the house at 7am and get home around 7pm due to traffic.
It's a bit cliche at this point
Was able to make the decision to move out of a midsize expensive city in CA to a state with no income tax (not Texas), buy an acreage at a fraction of the price it would have cost (wouldn't have been able to afford the acreage in CA let alone the house, lol) and currently building a house I could have never afforded, all without having to change jobs and may never have to commute to an office again
I sold my house for way more than it’s worth and moved across country to be closer to our kids. We had been planning to move a couple years from now but we pushed the timeline and I’m so happy we did.
wife and i had a baby. been wfh and no way would i have been able to contribute to raising him and being as much a part of his life if i was leaving at 8am and getting home at 8pm every day.
best and most difficult part of the pandemic, for me.
I got engaged! My now-fiancée realized that after not killing me after all this time together, he did want to make me his life partner.
Its given me the opportunity to invest in the stock market and earn a decent return compared to what one would make in a normal year. It’s also allowed me to grow much closer to my family. Also, can’t forget the cpa extension :)

LDR became live-in, left NYC, got my finances on track, got promoted, took better care of my dog, made working out a habit, wintered in a warm place, picked up a new hobby, was high touch with my team and rocketed our performance
I attribute this to:
- the psychological safety of knowing flexibility is the norm
- the increase in conversations about “what matters” most right now
- getting 2 hrs of the day back from commuting
- fresh air outside of a major city
I have immense nostalgia for the first wave of pandemic here in NY/NJ. Everyone actually understood that WFH wasn’t easy, we were all in this together, and people came together. Partners encouraged us to take time to be with family and take care of ourselves.
This week I got shit because my billables were low and my admin was high all month because of the insane number of marketing meetings I had to attend to bring in $$$$$. Gimme the first wave where we just talked about Tiger King any day.
Cpa credit extension 👌🏻
Despite I couldn’t travel back to my home country to visit my family, everything else is good-
I killed it in my job since I don’t have to do all those socials as an introvert
Our investment account increased like 50%
My husband and I spent a lot more time together despite the busy working schedules
And pregnancy while wfh is so damn good

More time with my kid! She comes down between classes on remote days and visits with me. I’m way more in tune to her eating, too, which is good as she’s got some issues and had lost weight when she should be gaining.
Making allll the hi protein snacks over here.
(If you’ve got recipes send em over!)
I was able to get cosmetic surgery that I'd been wanting for years since I could be at home while working to recover. It's been such an amazing boost to my self confidence.
It also emphasized the marital issues my husband and I were having which allowed us to collectively fix the issues. And we went from never seeing each other to almost always seeing each other. We are all so much happier now.
Saving tons of money, better work life balance with WFH since I am more productive and focused and spent the winter in a warm climate!
Pro
My husband and me did a total soul revamp. Started to meditate and got more spiritual. Almost a year later our lives have got more peaceful and calm.
And yes watching all the baby tik tok also gave us baby fever and now out lil one is on it’s way to make our lives even brighter.
