Curious what kind of hours everyone is working on average per week now that “busy season” is over. I’ll start first. I’m in state and local tax and am averaging about 45 hour weeks so far in November.

I’m also in SALT and I had a rough 9/15 and 10/15. But last few weeks have been so much PTO, Admin, etc I’m charging around 10-15 hours a week. Also have more pto and client meetings next few weeks so yeah I’ll be lucky to Bill 100 hours in next two months. But this is usually the standard for us this time of year considering we were destroyed July - October 15th

Standard 40 hours...Thank god!

You have it lucky. I’m not even in SALT and am working 50+ a week

45 hours is fine. Would you rather have 10 hours of chargeable work? As long as you take your PTO and trainings in the non busy season, when you’re in the office 40-45 hours is the sweet spot, enough work to hit your utilization metrics and also not to die of boredom or having to ask around for stuff to do.

In our firm the general standard is about 40 hours after 10/15. Most staff are maybe 30-50% billable - lots of CPE, catching up on admin projects, scheduling, Of course some exceptions for the SALT and TE groups and the odd fiscal year, but for me 10/31 - 12/15 is when almost all of my vacation time is taken.

Is it me or does the newer generation value more intangible things that aren’t easily measured like work-life balance, fulfillment and purpose in work. Which makes it difficult for firms because that’s not something that is easily measured. Also, this is why there is “value” in crypto, NFTs and the metaverse. It’s a clash of the generations that value tangible things like money, houses, cars and one that values time, experiences, personal online image. Thoughts?
