This has been a cornerstone of the progressive / liberal ideology for a long time now, i.e. raising the minimum wage and wages in general along with providing healthcare to all in the era of unprecedented income inequality, but Republicans always liken the people who would benefit from these policies as “burger flippers” but we now know that isn’t true. The truth is is that these people are essential and are today called heroes and while the hero moniker may not have always been apt, we’ve all always known that they’re essential and deserve more. But the right thinks that unless you create a business yourself or otherwise become rich, you don’t deserve economic dignity and this has exposed that loud and clear as they we will continue to salute those on the frontlines today but will vote against any such progressive policy that will benefit them tomorrow on ideological grounds, showing their true colors.

So how do we do this? Should we advocate for a federal raise in minimum wage?
I don’t really think Democrats believe in economic dignity any more than Republicans. If they do its a marginal and symbolic difference at best. Both parties share the same neoconservative foreign policy and both are neoliberal on domestic and trade policy. The rhetoric is different, and things are slightly more humane and fair under democrats, but not in a life changing way. The truth is maybe avocados should be expensive.
Now on social issues, parties are night and day...
Also, considering how hard Democrats fight and undermine Bernie Sanders, I think its foolish to not see a lot of what they say is just rhetoric, unless you think the best Progressive change is incremental.
