MBB folks: Does most of your strategy projects entail conducting primary research, summarizing results and presenting a readout to the client?
I’m an insurance defense attorney. I hate tracking time (procrastinator on time entry) and dislike navigating multiple diff billing/reporting req of numerous ins companies. don’t love that we are encouraged to do things that paralegals are capable of (to bill client at higher rate). I had an interview with plaintiff’s firm. I could switch sides to leave billing and they do med mal which I would have to learn. Also interviewed with ins co for in-house claims counsel (non-lit). Any Thoughts?
I don't like the project I'm working for. The skillset matches but the work is uninspiring for me. It's the first project I have received after joining DUSI. Is it okay for me to change the project by speaking to the project lead or would that reflect badly on me?
Any recent new Accenture alumni? Rumors of layoffs in past few weeks. Where’s everyone going in this economy?
Stupid question: do I bill to the client writing transition memos/ training other associates on matters I’m leaving because I’m lateraling to another firm?
This article popped up for me on LinkedIn - does it resonate with anyone else? I feel like so many people I know feel this way, notwithstanding that we should be grateful to be where we are. Is there really no way for this industry to get better as long as we’re client services?
Is the hiring slowdown over? I contacted a few firms to inquire about lateral opportunities in late June/early July and was asked to check back in the fall due to hiring freezes. I wonder if I should reach back out or if it's too soon. The news about Skadden's staff layoffs this morning makes me think it's too soon.

Hi! I am a Registered Client Service Associate at Morgan Stanley PWM, working on a 14 person team w/$3.6 billion assets across the book of business-250+ households. I am approaching my 5 year anniversary with my team & MS next month, & I'm looking for advice. My current salary is 60k without revenue share. At this point, I have not been given a sufficient pay raise for my hard work, commitment, & loyalty to my advisors over the years. How do I ask for rev comp? What's a good amt to ask for?

Low billable, low pressure work in patent lit, tech trans or privacy law? Slowly realizing that as my boys get older, the money isn’t worth what I’m missing out on. Currently a patent litigation associate with lots of hearing, depo and trial experience (I’ve appeared on my own at hearings/depos) at a well respected firm. Have my CIPM and CIPP/US /E and /C. Just feeling the burn out; 2000 hours of billables a year just isn’t sustainable for me long term. Money isn’t a huge issue.
I feel like many in big law have an unhealthy penchant for victimizing themselves. I’m talking about people who never say “no” to new matters, keep working late nights and talking about sleep deprived they are, are always vocally miserable but never quite miserable enough to do something about it. Many of them get promoted and this culture of victim-flexing continues in perpetuity. Does big law attract these types or do we (yes, sadly I’m like that too sometimes) become like this over time?

I’m so in love with this man gosh… but I can’t say much to him because he just got out of a serious relationship and we’re figuring things out slowly as he’s comfortable with it. But when the time is right, I’ll have all the pleasure saying those words….. if it works out
All I wanted was take a full one week off but that apparently is impossible. So I've been just saying no to new work to bill around 7 hours per day this month so I can do things in the evening what I could have done on my vacation.
I hope this is okay...
I work as an AE and I genuinely hate it. Looking to move to a position where I do not just schedule meetings all day. I dropped out of my PhD to take care of my mom and I am absolutely devastated by what it has done to my job prospects.
And no, I have no regrets. My mom died from Alzheimers and I was able to be with her. But...damn. If my program had let me have a year of leave? I could have finished.
Now interviewers think I'm just flaky 🙄
