So a major based on theory is superior to one that is founded on black and white actual principles?? Very interesting view. 🤔
Full disclosure, I started as an Econ major but couldn’t get over the fact my diploma would say College of Liberal Arts. My sophomore year, I changed majors and am so happy to have a degree in business. But to each their own.
It’s all about relationships, gaining confidence, and the thirst for knowledge in our field.

I was an English major. It’s actually served me well in the career. It’s all about relationships and that background taught me how to communicate effectively.
I went to college to play football, education was something I had to do to play. I have a BS in criminal justice and one in psychology. I “fell” into this career after school when I worked as a private banker for the bank of the Colts. It took me 5 years to realize I wanted to learn more and get licensed. Became a trader during 07 and in 09 became an advisor due to what I saw normal people doing to their own investments. Haven’t looked back!
I didn't. I took economics. And, sorry, but I think it gives me an edge over those who only studied finance.
I was a liberal arts major. My experience come from diving right in and learning the business from scratch.
Didn't do that. Was a sociology and German major :) I have an excellent understanding of how humans behave. Good foundation for this
Comm major. No math classes.
I really enjoyed learning how the financial world works. And I’m more interested in learning how to make money than just counting what I got (accounting).
Running a struggling small business for 6 years, my time enlisted in the Air Force, and 9 years as a cop in a pretty dicey city have played more of a roll in my professional education and personal development than the undergrad degree ever will.
I was a theology major
BA in Cross Cultural Chistian Ministry, minor in English as a Second Language. Master of Arts in Teaching in secondary ed with a social studies concentration. Ask me how it all fits into this career.
Never wanted to go into finance. Dumbass enlisted Marine with a history major
Communication major
I was a history major.
I did it so I could eventually live the “models and bottles” lifestyle
I went to culinary school
I was a Computer Science major in the 80's and saw even then that this whole computer on every desk-thing was non-sense. So I changed my major to Finance b/c my best friend's dad was a financial planner (whatever that is) and he was RICH!! 26 years later here we are! (and computers??)
My bachelors was in music composition and I’d take the exact same path if given the option. I learned some valuable skills I wouldn’t have picked up elsewhere. In my opinion studying for designations while working gives you more applicable experience than a finance degree. You can learn theory all day, but that doesn’t teach you how to apply it in your day to day.
