Current job working with aws to new company with azure, is it a good move?

Depends on what you’re looking for. I have minimal AWS exposure and a lot of Azure exposure. AWS is still the Cloud market leader by a good amount and then comes Azure. I’m particularly fond of Azure because it’s part of Microsoft which has really good tools and are still developing great security products which can be integrated with their cloud.

If anything else, you’d expand your knowledge base and portfolio.

I like Azure more than AWS, and I’d also consider it a good opportunity to learn

Just gave notice and I feel so bad for the partner I work for. He now has no associates on his team (the other left a few months ago) and it has nothing to do with him, it’s just that the firm refuses to pay associates enough ($100k below market). He was an amazing mentor to me and I feel so torn up about this. Just needed to vent.

Considering an exit to a startup that just completed a solid series B. They’re willing to provide competitive comp package and surprised how large the base is for a startup. Has me concerned about being on the high end and being the first person that comes to mind when it’s time to pinch a few pennies or clean up the books ahead of future rounds/IPO. Valid concern or am I overthinking it?

Would you rather buy a condo 2b2b in a nice happening neighborhood for $800k or get a large townhouse in a suburb a 30 minute drive from the nice neighborhood. We are DINK in our 30s. This will be our first home.

For those who know the Boston area- happening neighborhood is Somerville/Cambridge.
Suburb is Norwood, canton etc.

Additional Posts in Software Engineering

I’ve been working as a data analyst for about 5 years, and I’m wanting to switch careers into SE. I recently finished a python course, and I’m unsure of my next steps. I’ve seen some posts about pros and cons of boot camps or learning additional languages but with my current experience, would either of these be a realistic path to get a job? Or would I need something like an additional degree to get my foot in the door? Any advice is welcome!

I just got a job offer for an Entry Level Software Engineer at Boeing in Saint Louis. The salary is $82,000 with an $8,000 sign on bonus. I was hoping for an offer closer to 90k base and I don’t care too much for a sign on bonus. However, this is a lot more than what I’m making now, and would be my first SWE job. Should I counter? If so, how would I go about doing that? Thanks!

What's the best course of action when you find yourself at a job that's far more chaotic than you assessed while interviewing? Upon starting this job a couple of weeks ago, I discovered between the time I interviewed and my start date they had hired a new CEO, laid off all of their off-shore teams, changed my position to a new hiring manager, and added an on-call rotation to all engineering teams. None of this showed up in my research of the company or my interviews.

I am currently a civil engineer thinking of switching to software engineering. I got my masters in water resource engineering where I was coding a decent amount for assignments and it has really stuck with me. Unfortunately, in my current role and field (civil), I don’t really get to do much coding. Does anyone have a similar experience of jumping ship to do software engineering? What would be the best way to go about it (coding bootcamp, another degree, something else)?

What would your reaction be if the company you applied to asked for you to get permission from your current firm before moving forward? Jr PjM/BA 4 YOE in Tech Implementation Consulting. Beginner skills in Python, JS, HTML, CSS, AWS, SailPoint. Moderate in Azure, Okta. Have PMP, Certified Scrum Master, M.Sc., BBA. Want useful skills, but must focus energy and time. Recent projects and team just not filling my cup. Cloud Architecture, DevOps, InfoSec, IAM all seem interesting and highly rewarding. Taking CompTia N+ soon, and realizing its low demand. What certs & projects should I do to land a technical role within 1 yr?

Why are there so many “full-stack” engineers that can’t write basic HTML and CSS?
