Current M3 seeking better worklife balance and offered lateral move to
Slalom. Heard only great things, but smaller firm equals lower pay and less benefit options. Interested in hearing anyone who made the move for less $$ but work less hours + gained more balance. Worth it?

I would fight for true lateral move. Don’t take a pay cut.

SM1 - good for you. I’m now living in more of a small to midmarket city so the rates here maybe a little lower. a friend just took a position with Slalom Cali market and took reduced base by 20K. Guess at the end of the day it’s the old time vs.money dilemma – and which is more important.

like

OP, I made a similar move from ACN M1 to Slalom Consultant. Took a very small pay-cut and downgraded title to get off the road, figured if I was good enough I’d make both back up within a year. Was right and the gamble paid off. Take that work life balance thing with a grain of salt though. You can maintain 40hrs but won’t be winning any awards for it. All depends on what you’re trying to do. HTH

Unfortunately yes, about $15 K less than where I’m at today ...bonus and 401(k) much less attractive as well. Spoke to a few former colleagues who jumped over – they seem happier with the work like balance but both took pretty substantial pay cut to join.

like

Ah, that’s a different story. Certainly moving to a smaller city will probably mean a lower base regardless of going to slalom or not...

If they really want you a 15k delta is peanuts

Yes you got it. I am in the process with cross service team which travels but not as much as national advisory. Hope they hold up to that

Are you sure less money? Their pay is pretty competitive

Care to share your current base? Approx would be fine.

I’m talking to them too. I told them I wouldn’t make the jump for less than a 20% jump. That didn’t seem to scare them...

EY1, base $140k currently

Thanks Op and sm1

What title will you have at Slalom OP?

I’m assuming Practice Lead, but yet to be determined...

SC1, likely senior consultant; realize the titles and leveling are different here.

Op care to share their title and leveling structure?

Are there any pros to staying at a company and getting laid off, vs. proactively looking for a new job and quitting before it happens? I.e., financial (possibility of receiving severance or any other benefits). Or is being laid off just all bad? I don’t know if my job is at risk — I don’t believe it is — but my agency lost some clients and is talking about cost cutting to be safe and get ahead of it. Fwiw, I’m ready for a change anyway.

I took adderall while I was studying for the bar and it really helped. I don’t have a prescription but am wondering if this likely means I have undiagnosed ADHD but don’t know how to bring this up to my doctor. I definitely have trouble focusing in general and have always been pretty dozey/aloof but have somehow gotten by and am now a third year associate who is doing okay without it. Do you think getting Aderall could help even though I’m doing fine? Maybe I’ll go from good associate to great
