Current PL and just finished a call with uber for rideshare ops manager and they offered 80k base salary (25% of current comp) why would they waste both of our times with a call... who would accept

OP, first of all, going from BCG to Rideshare Ops Manager is such a downgrade for you. I wouldn’t event entertain any conversations to hire me for such a low role. Uber is notorious for glorifying mundane roles. With BCG experience, I would aim higher at Uber, like Director roles. Second, with bay area companies please don’t fixated on the salary component only, talk about TC (total comp). How much RSUs were they willing to offer? For example, 80K base with 500K RSUs over 4 years is a different conversation now.

Why indeed. Perhaps the hiring manager isn't familiar with consulting pay? I recall having a call with a headhunter who found my pay range (and this was immediately before a major raise, so I'd be paid well below market rates) incredibly high. otoh, they probably didn't know the difference between MBB and a regional boutique. But hey, at least the Uber person didn't try to sign you on as a driver-partner
