Thoughts on EY risk advisory?
Update: I took role 2 guys. 110k all in comp. fully remote. Great team. Will learn more about SQL and data analytics. Best part I secured the entire month of December off to rest between roles and enjoy the holidays.
Thanks again for all the advice!
Nice that the office COL gives you a bump. Not sure it’s the same for me! Although my office is only 2 blocks away… I am a trader, have all the authorities to execute on any money market or derivative investments I see fit. I just think that working for a GSE, and being under the “treasury” umbrella keeps the variable income low. I was at a hedge fund before and yeah como structures for traders are much higher with variable pay (obviously taking much more risk) but I figure there should be some more of an incentive to be trading opposed to something less stressful and pay the same. Is what it is for now, I’m learning a ton and have the opportunity to see a lot of different thing and trade a lot of products. I know I could get paid more somewhere else but not sure I’d get the same opportunities.
1 or 3 depending on if you value extra money more than full wfh
Public experience was unconventional. Dealt with micro cap SEC filers that were either going through S-1 or Reg A filings or had recently gone public. None had operating control structures, which required heavy substantive testing. This was the industry subset we worked in, the clients themselves were never the same industry really.
Internal experience is also somewhat unconventional. It’s B2B financial services. I only do operational audits. I’ve done 2-4 SOX cycles in my Internal Audit career, probably less than 15 controls. I was able to add value by taking my control identification approaches I gained in my micro cap public experience and used them to build out new audit programs for like 4-5 operational audits at my current firm that were previously woefully inadequate.
#2 lowest level of responsibility
I found that intriguing. My real goal is to eventually invest in and actively manage commercial real estate. So I think there’s a benefit in having a job that has a salary that allows for capital build up while not requiring a lot of extra responsibility and overtime. I can see that freeing my time up for other pursuits that could help me position myself for that move.

Where did you like the people most?
I think it’s luck. I have two friends who have run their own departments of 2 and 4 and have struggled to find VP level roles are larger organizations bc they don’t have experience managing larger amounts of personnel. As with anything, just takes one hiring manager to take a chance on you or great skills selling yourself.
Good luck!
