Currently 14 weeks pregnant and just received a job offer at a large company I’ve always wanted to work for. Should I tell them I’m pregnant before accepting or after accepting the offer? Can they hold it against me if I only tell them after? I didn’t want them to base their hiring decision on me being pregnant.

No advice on telling before or after but just be aware that most employers don't offer paid maternity leave unless you've been there for a year. Also, not positive on this, but you might not even qualify for FMLA.

like

Yes checked on that, they offer paid maternity leave after 90 days of employment, which I’ll have met.

like

They already offered you the position so it doesn’t matter - they know they’d be in big trouble if they re-neg’d after you tell them you’re expecting.

I can see both perspectives. My cynical self would tell after, closer to 18-20 weeks so you have time to make a strong impression first. And no, they cannot do anything about it.

like

I'm in a similar position, pregnant and looking for work, and I've been thinking a lot about this question. While part of me thinks it would be right to tell before accepting the offer, several people who I respect and trust have told me that I should wait until after I've built a rapport and reputation with the new colleagues/management. Self-preservation!

like

agreed. At the end of the day, it probably won’t matter, since at this point the company has already extended the offer- and most likely wouldn’t withdraw it. However, I feel like I’d rather tell the team once I started, rather than telling the recruiter right now. On top of that, the company could have a policy that allowed for maternity leave only after 1 year instead of 90 days, which kinda means they would expect something like this to happen and are okay with it.

like

I would tell.

Before accepting the offer.

I would tell before. I would hope they would support you in this journey, if not, maybe it’s not worth working there.

No experience in this myself but if I was in your shoes I would be upfront about it and see what the issue is with leave. Especially if you plan on taking more than the 6-8 weeks (8-12+) so it does not catch them off guard later on.

I would tell after. You're not required to tell and you'll have been there for seven months when you go out on leave. After seven months, an employee could get hit by a bus and need a few months off. Shit happens. Employers need to learn to roll with it.

I’ve been offered a position that I’m really excited about. Their initial offer was 10K more than the top of the salary range they gave me for the position when I asked during the interview process and at the top end of the salary requirements I set for myself. My partner thinks I should still negotiate for more even though I’m happy with the offer. Am I an idiot if I don’t negotiate in this case? Realistically, I don’t think I’d get much more than that, but should I negotiate out of principle?

I am hesitating to take lead role. But for my experience (8 YOE) I will have to take up that role at least in my next switch.

Could you please suggest me how can I come out of this fear. I am afraid of taking lead role because of below things.

1. Taking ownership for entire team deliverables.
2. Had to attend every requirement call and as well as technical review calls. (When BA is not good, need to provide acceptance criteria points).
3. Providing and justifying resource/work estimates.

My company is adopting Scrum and hiring a bunch of agile coaches to assist with sprints. We got assigned our agile coach that'll be starting soon.

I read a description of what this role is supposed to be for and it sounds like they'll be leading Scrum ceremonies. So they run the planning meeting, the retrospective and daily stand ups. Up to now, I've been doing those and it's taken a total of like 2 hours a week of my time.

What on earth do agile coaches do with the other 95% of their time?

Anyone else notice a trend with the mass amounts of layoffs in tech? Why are all their resumes so jumpy? Not like 2-5 years jumpy, like few months at a time jumpy? But still can land a position with similar tech giants? IMO, lots of these people get hired by their rich friends, stay a few months before someone realized they aren’t qualified and were just a recommendation from a current employee. Then repeat that process over and over until your company is down 50%

Some cars you dreamed about when you were younger that when you got to the age where you could drive one, you realized, man, I’d rather be in something else! I tried getting to an Aventador a few years ago when my M5 was being serviced and I realized I was too bulky to get in. When I was looking for. Y current daily driver, I thought about leasing an Alfa Romeo, it again, too bulky to get in. I looked into getting a C6 Corvette before, and then realized that driving one would kill my back.
