Literally all that matters in life is health and family. Focus on relationships and don’t put all your eggs in the career basket. Career fulfillment is important but not everything.

Definitely agree with BCG1 - the fatter paycheck isn’t always worth it when you barely have time to properly enjoy time with loved ones, even on vacation. On top of that - the stress and potential associated habits (caffeine, alcohol) puts a toll on the body and relationships

You’re not alone in this. I often wonder what I want in life... Right now I simply establish goals and then set out to accomplish them. Once those goals are met, I set new goals. Rinse and repeat. I have a pretty decent book of accomplishments for my age, but not sure what’s the end goal/purpose. For starters, I’m an Olympic gold medalist, in a happy relationship, make good money, am able to buy nice things, drive nice cars, etc. I volunteer for philanthropic events in my community, stay fit at the gym, and have lots of friends and a loving family. It’s all nice and dandy, but can’t help but think that theres gotta be more to life than this.

Maybe go the moon next ... you seem to have got everything one could on earth ... so maybe try another planet .. but on a serious note happy for all your achievements and kudos to you

34 married w/kid, jumped from Big 4 to a smaller firm for more money and still have this same question. Just enjoy the now is all I can tell you.

It took me until I was 36 or 37 to figure out what I wanted to do. I moved, went back to school, and am trying to get good enough to play pro golf. I went to therapy for 4 months before all this and it changed my whole perspective on things.

Think about the different chapters of your life..high school, early college, late college, early career and when you do you’ll start to think about how much fun each one was. The funny stories the people involved etc. when you do that you’ll also remember how bad you wanted to move or grow up. At the end you’ll really see how nice each time period has been and that will help you to focus on the now. Work hard but play hard too

Foster relationships with your friends and family. In my experience those are the things that get you through life. For about 99% of people work can suck, at least some of the time. So don’t look to that to get your sole fulfillment in life

I’ve always been a goal oriented guy. I chase something that I define and it had worked for me. Taking a break and trying to figure out, how do I define my long term goal. Work/personal life is kind of neutral, nothing great/bad, it’s just happening. I’m new to big 4 culture (moved from industry), been here little over a year but I’ve experienced a lot of mood swings after joining big 4. And most of the times my SM/M are pretty frustrated as well. And I started to realize how “transactional” people here are compared to industry

I am in the exact same boat as you, including industry background. Jumping back very soon cause of this

As someone married, 33, trying to have kids, and overall satisfied/happy - maybe to start I would think about the kind of experiences you know you want to have in life, but that future obligations (fam and career) may make more difficult to achieve later. You’re young and relatively well off - make a few concrete plans for those experiences (travel, go see a bullfight on acid, whatever) - and do them. Worst case you’ve gained an awesome experience, best case the experience gives you perspective and clarity on those bigger questions you seek to answer.

Can you elaborate on what’s giving you these thoughts? Are you unsatisfied with work, personal life, or both? Or just taking pause and questioning things?

Interesting. Could you please elaborate on how your perspective changed?

For me it’s easy - it’s all about doing all you can, everyday, to build a better working world..

OP, for me its enjoying work and family but also a strong religious connection where I know this world is a temporary stop to the afterlife and trying to prepare for it. There is more to this but this thread is not the place for it

Hi all! I’m an MBA Candidate with 3.5 years on H1B. What consulting firms are still hiring internationals among MBB and Big 4?

Can anyone help me evaluate whether I should take an exit opportunity. Currently in big 4 (fsrm) and have the opportunity to join a f250 payments firms internal strategy division. They report directly to the c-suite and said they mainly focus on strategy or M&A and don’t do implementation. The team seems really nice but I’m just worried about leaving consulting and leaving the accelerated progression. Would love some insights as I’m fairly lost on what to decide. Thanks!

Does anyone know acceptance rates at big 4 type firms versus boutiques? Most assume big 4 are harder to get into and more prestigious than boutiques or lower level firms. I’m at a mid tier firm so I’m fairly neutral in this. I’ve worked with highly intelligent, and highly incompetent, consultants from either type of firm. Would love to hear your thoughts on this and any data you have. Sometimes I wonder why big 4 is so highly revered when work products I review are less than stellar.
