I was in AWM for a handful of years. IMO I feel there is diminishing returns from tax compliance from a learning perspective. I get the motivation to Partner but I would also ask yourself are you happy with your day to day? If you ended up leaving for this role you also gain new perspective from the client side and learn the in house functions, whats their day to day, what’s valuable to them etc. Even if it doesn’t work out and you go back to PA you have more perspective compared to your peers that never left and could be a differentiator if you strive to make partner.
This is very helpful. Thank you.
Private equity tax compliance is a grind, I can understand why you’d dislike it. I was in that group in my first few years and rotated out.
My advice, if you’re ready to exit- stay in private equity. Try to land a gig in this industry. You’ll have an easier time transitioning over.
