I'd say $150-$175/hr. Source: I freelanced for 5 years and I work at a PR firm where we sometimes hire freelancers.
Thank you! That’s the range I was thinking so glad to know I’m not totally off.
Are you considering doing the contract work in addition to your current job? Or freelance full time for your old company?
Thanks for the great response! I’ve tried looking up my current company’s policy and can’t seem to find it. I know others in my department who openly freelance themselves so I’d have to imagine it’s accepted I just have to dig into it more.
I don’t have an “hourly” because I’m in-house, and I’ve always been, which is mainly why I made this post. From what I’ve been told so far, is to calculate my theoretical current hourly based on my salary, and then at least double that. Fortunately, operational costs will be fully covered and there would be zero risk of using current company resources.
My biggest issues are a) Do I realistically have the time and mental capacity, and b) what wage would make this even worth considering.
Can you access the rate card to see what you are billed as for clients (if you’re at an agency?)
Unfortunately, I’m in-house so we don’t have such a thing.
