We hire advanced degrees in as a generalists, making the same as any MBA grad. We however do very little federal work. Alternatively, you could specialize with defense contractors as we do a ton of work for those. FWIW I don’t think the MBA will be that valuable for you given your background.

Thank you B2! Flexibility is key and seems like Bain has it (and supports it, which is even more key since I’m in it for the long haul).

Side question: I have the opportunity to do an MBA here, would it be worth it? I have a Master’s (business related) from an Ivy already. Thanks in advance.

Most are hired as a generalist with post-MBA associate pay and trajectory. Many of the PhDs I know tend to stick to the area they studied because they wanted to, but as a generalist you wouldn’t be restricted to a specific practice. There’s also an option to go into an expert role, but I’m not as familiar with this and don’t know how many take this option.

Oh great McK2. Super insightful - I like the fact that you can go back and forth, will keep that in mind as I begin recruiting.

BCG also hires PhD holders at the post MBA level in the US. Not where I’m based so I can’t give much more context than that

That’s right, no PhDs in my office (or at least not straight from academia). Based in Latin America

What does M&A consulting at big 4 look like, especially at the entry level? All my previous experience is in audit/tax and I know nothing about consulting, just wanted to try something new. I liked my finance courses in undergrad, but not sure how relevant that is. Would I have ANY transferable skills from my accounting background? Can you explain what the work is like for a new hire? Especially if you've made a similar switch?

Interviewing with a small internal strat team (currently 3 FTEs) led by the CSO. One VP was awesome, Ex MBB really energetic/excited is with 1.5 yrs in tenure. Then interviewed with the other VP and Manager. They weren’t great, overall not quite at the same level as the VP in terms of professionalism and pedigree. They were very tactical and felt more like middle managers without vision. The latter two seem to have grown up in the company (3-4 years)
