Currently a M7 PhD student. Former Big 4 consultant and veteran. Want to go back into consulting (preferably strategy). I have an Ivy Master’s. Would a MBA be silly if this is my goal?

It depends: what are your other grad degrees? If they are highly technical, or very abstruse, then it wouldn't hurt. But I suspect that as you have previous consulting experience you just need to consider how the PhD applies to the consulting you want to do, and tell that story to the recruiters or interviewers. I doubt an MBA is going to do wonders for you other than be a costly market signal. But a PhD usually signals an ability to learn, be detail oriented, and be dedicated in ways an MBA never will.

This perspective is great, thanks! Master’s is non-MBA industry specific management. Heavily recruited in consulting firms. I just want to maximize my current degree to get to my goal without having to get another degree.

Is there a way of giving feedback to my manager that they talk too much?
