Currently a senior in big 4 FDD and wanted thoughts on two potential exits:
1. IB analyst at a globabl MM Bank for the same base pay; or 2. Finance manager in industry for a 40% increase in base pay

Do you need cash now? Are you looking for IB/PE career down the road? What other factors matter to you other than the details you provided for two options (e.g., WLB, flexibility, etc.)?

Based on what you described and only focusing on comp factor, the answer looks obvious.

What are your goals? Maximum pay or wlb? Where do you want to be, PE? Corp Dev?

I have no interest in PE and MM bonuses are less than 100% here in London.

Two vastly different career paths with significantly different exit ops, lifestyle, etc

What MM Bank?

It’s sad how brainwashed people are on these apps. Banking is the most pseudo-intellectual industry that exists. To think in the slightest that modeling is a difficult skillset that accountants couldn’t do, you’re actually insane.

You HAVE to be 24 years old. Trying to talk about growth levers and industry trends — you are your director’s modeling & ppt bitch. “Actshually the fundraising dynamics 🤓👆” Glad you read your cases, but you need to touch grass.

I’m leaving Deals to work in strategy at FAANG, I’m done with M&A for now. My friends left Deals to work front office at Blackstone and Vista Equity Partners. Another one spent a year doing a rotation at a top HF (Citadel/P72/Baly), and now does S&O there. Not trading, but I know for a fact they make more money than a LMM PE associate ever would and works 9-5.

I won’t bother providing network or career advice to OP, I’m sure WSO boy here can teach you to cold call people on LinkedIn 🫵😹 Go throw your William Blair resume on the stack.

The bonus in IB will make up for the difference in base. Like others said - what’s are longer term goals?

There’s a fair chance you end up in the same spot after IB that you would if you went to be a finance manager. But, ib will give you the opportunity to pursue better exits that a finance manager title will not give you.

So net net, I bet you’ll end up either ahead or in the same spot going the IB route.

OP - did you start in FDD? Currently an audit staff looking to transition to FDD

Understand what a FDD role entails. Do research around QoE, net debt and NWC and that would give you a good starting point.

Has anyone successfully negotiated a title? I was looking for Senior Manager positions but applied for some Mgr positions too. I’m up for promo next year at my current job as well. The current industry offer meets my comp expectation but planning to see if they would bring me in as a senior manager. There isn’t a set hierarchy for the team as of right now as they are building the team and I’d be reporting to a senior executive. Any talking points/tips that might help me negotiate?

This was supposed to be the first year EY implemented a firm-wide mid-year bonus which would have been paid in January. Curious if other firms have a mid year bonus (based on their fiscal year) and if so, what have the amounts been historically? Select high performers with high utilization will still receive a little something this year similar to prior years (only ~$5k-10k tho).

Have anyone done contracting negotiations before? I've interviewed for co A & B and co A extended an offer today. The offer does not meet my current salary. Co B's interview structure is 3 rounds and I've finished my 2nd round today. The recruiter mentioned that since I am a contractor my current salary is incomparable as they will provide benefits, etc. Is this true? Just backed out of a signed offer and I feel like shit. The new company was very delayed in issuing an offer letter (3 weeks from verbal) and approaching a month from background check. I missed kick off events and offered to visit happy hours, but they denied that request until after the start date (which had to be pushed back).

I feel I’m justified in reneging but the group lead did everything they could to recruit and move things along, so I feel bad. Here to vent.

Advice needed on handing in notice, I recently signed an offer letter and understand the screening process takes 4-6 weeks. I have a month's notice period and have agreed a preliminary start date in Feb.

I was planning on not handing my notice in until the checks had been completed so its all secured (not that I think I will fail any checks), but apparently I need a reference from my current employer not previous ones. Can't really do this without handing in notice can I?

Been working in Big 4 FDD for a little under two years, interviewing past 2-3 months for FDD, strategy, and IB. Received an offer from a MM FDD group for a 25% pay bump, but mainly looking to pivot out as I’ve burned out of FDD and want to move into a more finance focused role. Currently moved into second rounds at a senior strategy role for a F500 and case study stage for two boutique IB’s.

Would it be dumb to turn down the guaranteed FDD role and see how the others turn out?

Any firm still recruiting folks out of Big 4 audit into their fdd team? Happy to chat if so.

What do you think makes more sense:
a) Stay in audit and get M1 promo this year, and then later try to transfer to FDD at manager level.
b) Move to FDD right now as S3, settle in at more relaxed pace but only hit M1 promo in 2 years.
