Banking is your best bet into PE - Qatalyst, Goldman TMT, EVR are all great ways to break in.
I've tried LinkedIn but don't know how to get responses from bankers.
Why PE and not VC? Given your tech experience wouldn’t that be a more natural and easier transition?
much less structured in terms of promotion*
Stay clear of consulting
why is that? i thought MBB places well into operations-heavy PE firms like Hellman and Bain Cap.
I’m curious why you’re interested in moving to PE from tech - I’m considering doing the opposite
Comp is better (or at least there’s a higher ceiling). However, keep in mind rising up in PE is as, if not much more political than tech. It’s super hierarchical at most firms. A bad week is 100 hours (although the average is realistically around 70). Keep in mind, at megafunds, you are not at all learning how to manage an organization. Most megafund PE roles have a fairly small operational component.
You start making more than tech as a principal / Vice President, but most people don’t get there. It’s up or out.
