Currently an analyst in private management and thinking of switching to portfolio management for a big tech company (mainly for the life style). I am scared I’ll be missing out of the Advisor path which in theory has unlimited upside and good WLB. But I look at my current advisors and don’t necessarily like I envy them or feel like I am learning anything from them. Honestly feeling lost. Anyone has thoughts/tips/opinions? Anyone works in portfolio manager at a tech company and want to share?

On the same boat. Felt lost for a while. Accepted an offer in tech consulting recently. Much rather grow while young and then find something with a better WLB once I have more opportunities open up

Financial advisors don’t generally take the time to teach you how to become an advisor in my experience. There’s generally a limited career trajectory that you can have in most firms. You really have to set that path yourself or find a firm that establishes that into their core goals. You would have to determine whether you want to be in advisory or portfolio management. Each is a very different day to day. Financial advisors now are finding the important of financial planning, estate planning and moving away from only offering investment management. If that interests you I’d recommend staying the course or getting experience in an financial planning firm. I’ve seen ppl at my firm come from that route or tax planning and have catapulted into an advisor role.

Good morning, hope everyone is having a great week! Does anyone have any advice on breaking into an analyst role? I am currently a Senior Customer Success Manager, with a background in Operations/Process and Project Management as well. I have always enjoyed the analysis pieces of my roles and would love to expand my skills to show how qualified for a position in data analytics. Thank you in advance for the help!

Let's say I'm a former analytics specialist who left the field several yrs ago for a top 10 MBA and strategy consulting at big 4. How would I parlay this into finding *non-tech* AI/ML/DS roles like strategy or product?

I don't want to use R/SAS/etc daily again, but many places either want me to be a DS/engineer which doesn't suit my interest, or require more recent technical management experience, which I don't have.

Boomerang to Big 4?
I switched from Big 4 to a mid-sized firm a few months ago. The sole reason was for for a good pay raise. However, I'm not loving the new job as much, because of lack of resources, outdated technology, and work opportunities are not what I thought. Is it crazy to go back to my old firm? I really liked my coworkers there, and could perhaps ask for a better raise since I left. I maintained good relationships with my old team. Is it bad to leave after only a few months?

Dilemma… I left my old company 4 months ago. Today, they’ve reached out to me to ask me to come back at a higher role, Operations Manager. I would’ve jumped on this opportunity if they asked me before. However, this role would be hybrid (2x in office) and come along with more responsibilities and hours than my current WFH role which is very chill. The pay is only 15% more than I currently make. Any thoughts?

Hi everyone

I'm in a business development role based in Asia. May I get your thoughts/pointers on the CAIA?

I'm aware that the CAIA is not as popular in Asia compared to the CFA. From my knowledge, there are no CAIA holders in my current firm within the Asian region, despite dealing with alternative investments.

Would be happy to hear your thoughts regarding the CAIA, and study tips if you have any!
