The easiest way from audit is probably to move to big 4 transactions, get some experience there and then move to PE/IB. Definitely not easy but doable
I went from B4 to research at a hedge fund, but needed an intermediate role in between
Sorry, consulting
Get on a project with a PE shop then build relationships and get in. That's probably your best bet.
Agree with C1, PE shops have a relationship with their advisory partners, they aren’t going to blow that up by poaching talent without a reason to. If you go this route, just make sure you do so transparently, some consulting firms will be open to it as a means to deepen the relationship, but not if you just up and leave.
I was in B4 audit and few people in my year went to IB (Big 5 bank in CA) or joined the IB practice within the B4 (KPMG).
Me and a few others left for consulting.
It’s doable but you need to get out before your M1 year or you’d get pigeon holed as an auditor. As for prep, you need to master the technicals and network insanely hard to get a referral for an interview.
Breaking into Wall Street, Wall Street oasis, vault career guide are good starting points
Almost impossible. ^ would be best bet
That’s how I did it. B4 audit to TAS to IB.
At the analyst level it is very possible but less so for post MBA associate roles. Just download the IB 400 questions floating around and get up to speed on those concepts. Next step is to start cold networking with people at firms and see if they are willing to talk (MM firms are more willing to recruit folks with B4 backgrounds that can work the hours)
MBA can help as another option but you are paying 250k for it versus just trying to lateral pre-MBA as an analyst and getting the associate promotion in a few years
