What kind of consulting are you interested in? Most firms have an MBA track and recruit in the fall, though no full time experience may complicate it
You're applying to entry level roles at all consulting firms -- we auto reject those with less than 3 years of XP on my T2 campus recruiting team.
Do they require full time experience?
I'm interested in tech or management consulting
Once again, you're applying to entry level roles. Internships and PT work do not count for FT experience; our T2 campus recruiting team auto rejects any MBAs that do not meet that minimum requirement, and I guarantee recruiters at all consulting firms will do the same. You should have worked ~ 3 years before getting your MBA.
Consulting firms recruiting students out of MBA programs have targeted recruitment timelines (usually fall for internship and spring for full time). Your career office should know the timelines if they are maintaining relationships with consulting firms who are recruiting from your program.
If your program is not targeted, I recommend reaching out to your network and start building relationships through informational interviews to get a better understanding of their work. Consulting is a relationship and networking business so even targeted recruitment was mainly based on your skill to network in addition to case interview etc
It’s going to be hard to recruit off cycle and if your program is not targeted for recruiting. People get hired as an experienced hire but you would need full time experience to get in through that route. But again, networking and having an advocate for you within the company is important
A lot of places have internships for mbas. Don't be dissuaded, they are paid internships and usually convert to full time
