Currently an SM at D. Have a VP offer at JPMorgan. Come is better but optics wise, is this seen as a step down?

From a role perspective, VP might be a step down. Most banks give out VP roles to folks straight out of business school. If you don’t have much financial services background and want to switch to the industry then this might be a good option. If you have financial services experience and want to move to industry then I’d pass and look for something more substantial. Depends on what you want from your career.

Let’s be honest no one cares if it’s not IB

I’d use years of experience as a measure to see if you fit better in the VP vs. ED route. Also, very much dependent on role/division. If you’re about 5-7 years work experience at D VP is fair. 7-10 at D should push you to an ED level usually.

Are you really asking if VP at JP Morgan Chase is less impressive than Senior Manager at Deloitte? Is Deloitte French for “delusional”?

You may be too focused on the words in the title and taking it too literally. VP at JP Morgan is not as senior of a role as SM at Deloitte. As SM, you are considered a junior Partner, next step it’s Partner/Principal at Deloitte. If you said Vice President for a large Insurance company, now that’s different, typically an actual VP leading a large department, a position typically held by someone senior with significant years of experience.

VP is manager equivalent. I know lots of VP that don’t even have direct reports. So in some cases it’s equivalent to Consultant.

Depends SM at Deloitte is one step away from PPMD right? But at JPM, i believe VP equates to manager/SM and there’s still additional tier, EVP/SVP before MD

Some banks call that ED - Executive Director

If you plan to pivot to financial services this seems like the right direction. J.P Morgan is way more prestigious than Deloitte and w/o research the VP position sounds like an upgrade.

Not in banking, VP isn’t a senior role. SM in Consulting can make 300k+ and next step is partnership with 7 figure salary potential. Def not an upgrade but if it fits the OPs expectations, then title is irrelevant

What’s the ladder? If it’s standard I-banking then VP is essentially 2-3 years out of MBA.

Why are you asking internet strangers? Stop caring what they think!!! Do you see it as a step down?

JPM first year analyst (non back office) has more clout than Partner at a big 4.

I would think clout would include influence on internal and external parties. I don’t think a 23 year old client at a F500 has the same influence a 23 year old PE associate has.

Do you see it as a step down?

What’s your end goal?

What is your offer, do you mind sharing?

I think it’s a step down. Plus you should also note that it might a really long time to go from VP to ED. I would strongly advise against taking the VP offer and hold out for a better deal.

Is moving from ‘“Manager” at D to “Managing Consultant “ at Guidehouse a step down?

What team? Not all VPs are equal. A trading VP with her own book at JPM has a ton of clout; a VP in the back office has a lot less.

Hey there! Currently practicing for case interviews and was wondering if anyone here would have some tips on how to improve numeracy?
