I’ve been saying that to myself for the last 25 years. Once in the insurance industry, the longer you’re in it the harder it is to leave

I’m in the same boat. Been working in insurance for a year and a half after graduating college but don’t want to be pigeonholed into this industry

I’ve been in this industry for almost 6 years. Would love to pivot?

I feel like there is opportunity to pivot in insurance by looking at more the corporate side. From my experience in searching it’s a little difficult to make certain pivots within insurance. But not impossible. You could start by searching what professional development or education options your company offers to better position yourself to make a transition.

Yeah. I'm lucky I started out in management consulting and that really opens up future job opportunities. I might still have a little bit of energy left to go back to something like that (stupid hours and travel), but it'd be hard.

At the end of the day, getting into an insurance strategy or internal operations is the way to go. That's what I think.

Nope, casualty broker.

Definitely try brokering, it’s definitely more challenging but also more rewarding

Travelers seems open to people pivoting depending on what department you are in. Have you reached out to your division’s learning liason? They are great coaches in my experience and are open to helping anyone!

Yes - went from claims to Agency side. As an UW consider a marketing rep, Producer, or Account Manager of the industry. You already know appetite and risk and what info is needed to write such risk, so it will be easy to transfer your skill set there.

Legal! Try the legal department in a company. What you’re doing is basically negotiation contracts anyway.

Most people in my dept who leave underwriting go to the business analyst role or Corporate UW (staff uw/products).

I typically see posts here from folks who are drained going out to social events. Feel like that’s the majority of my friend crowd espec as Im now in my 30s. I’m a bit of the opposite and my SO and I really enjoy socializing but are finding it increasingly harder to meet new friends who like to go out a lot. Any tips? We used to live in nyc and now are somewhere smaller which has made it harder. My SO in particular is European so really misses that element of life
