Currently at my firm (digital practice) for 2.5 years making 110k in NYC - pushing for Manager by Q2 2019. Is it worth sticking out for promotion, or should I make a move (soon)?

Yes I think given what I heard that practice in ibm is going through growing pains and identity crisis. They are growing in size without enough sold pipeline of projects. What I also hear there could be major cuts if things don’t improve. So imo what the other person says I feel school could be a good option. I wonder if ibm digital to other consulting firm could be achieved

Just a point of reference from when I went through recruiting a few years back, entry-level consulting salaries ranked from highest to lowest: Accenture IBM/Deloitte PWC/EY KPMG MBB would be higher than any of these. Please note this might have changed over the past few years :)

Employment at IBM is starting to look a little tenuous with this latest round of firings - probably wouldn't hurt to start looking around. If you don't find anything that would entice you to leave, you can always try again once you get the promote

Currently at IBM DS 🤭😬😵 Have been since I started - specifically looking at ACN, DD, BCG (general or Platinion)

like

Sounds like OP works for ACN

Thanks so much. Then the answer is no. I m on deck I will get 260-280 in Deloitte at the same level. Thanks so much.

Promotion to Mgr will be around 130-140k all in (almost non-existent bonus)

Why not both? Unless you have an offer right now, this scenario doesn’t exist

If I wait until promotion I would have more leverage no? I’m asking if it’s worth interviewing now, or when promoting. (Depends I know)

Ibm digital strategy pays 180k for senior con. If not manager why not broaden horizon?

Correction - digital Strategy pays 110k for senior consultant (top end) - Manager B8 pays 120-160ish

Meant pays 180k for senior con from another firm esp. DD, I did get the offer but I m up this year here so did not take. Hence my point if not getting mgr. why not ibm ds

^ true TSC ~ I’m essentially asking because IBM pays an absurd amount because we “buy” talent (some mediocre, some baller). My experience so far is ‘decent’ in terms of experience, but I want to pivot for an increase in pay, not a decrease. (Unless the other benefits are extraordinary)

same OP. Currently $100k looking at promo Q1 2019 - wondering if anywhere will pay the same

A1, OP did specifically say he's currently at IBM :) OP, I'm making 110k as a year 2 Consultant for reference (in Chicago at ACN, not in Digital)

How many years after undergrad do year 2 consultants have?

3 full years (e.g., I am in year 4 of being here)

Are you a b7 now?

B7 currently yes

My friend told me they had a reorg last month in ibm digital strat. They pushed mgr to b9 and b8 to sr com. She is b9 in DC. If u in b7 it would be atleast 2-3 years before you reach b9. She is gunning for AP and has been with the team since inception

I’ve a pretty good network around these things and I can assure you they didn’t move titles around.. B7 is sr con, B8 is Manager, B9 sr. Mgr. Either way, going up for promotion to B8 in Q1 and am trying to see what the market landscape looks like in terms of comp, or if it’s better to just leave now rather than wait

Absolutely can be achieved, it’s been done plenty of times before.. again, question isn’t whether it is or isn’t possible, it’s comp 😑😪

Would love some advice—I’ve spent the last 2 yrs in sr level role doing policy work I enjoy. early on I discovered I was srsly underpaid & had to fight to fix it. Then leadership changed & things were good, until recently they dangled a promotion only to tell me it wouldn’t come with a raise for at least 6 mons. Then a diff agency asked me to apply for a role that pays a lot more but the work sounds so boring. Do I follow the money or do I keep doing work I like while feeling undervalued?

Struggling with an offer I got for an industry position. The base undervalues me, raises are low, but total comp is higher than I would get this year with my raise if I stayed (although it couldn’t compete with my expected comp next year). I’ll have better WLB, which I really need for various reasons, but so scared to give up everything I know and that the hiring company was putting on a show during the interview process.

I left KPMG after 7 years after being passed over for Director promotion. I left to start a medical business. 3 months in, my partner and I grossed $130K in sales w/ a 60% margin. Consulting prepared us for this and I’m forever grateful for my experience. I’m honestly amazed at how well consulting skills translate to entrepreneurship. I’m sharing this to encourage anyone who’s been on the fence about starting their own thing. Go for it. Consulting will always be there if you need to fall back.

How do LMM/MM/UMM firms in Europe (London & EU) differ from NA in terms of WLB? Know it will vary by fund and city but would be curious for some data points - have anecdotally heard of fewer full sprint weekends, fewer 3/4 am nights, and more protected vacation. Know the opposite tends to be true in consulting - so is this a one off or true more broadly?
