Currently at small public company (2 bil in revenue) and got an offer at fortune 100 for senior accountant. But current company gave counteroffer to match salary and promise of manager promotion in 1-2 years. Which one should I take assuming current company will keep their word?

Depends why you applied to another job in the first place. If it was just for money and you're happy otherwise in your current role, it could be worth staying. But if your goal was to be at a big company, then leave.

Put the promotion in writing. But remember it's an at will state.

like

As said above, get the manager promo in wetting with a payout clause if the promo doesn’t happens by then. If not, yeet

like

Take the offer with the newer, bigger company. Getting that kind of promise in writing with your current company is meaningless if your current company merges, gets sold, has some partial buyout with new management, goes bust in 1-2 years. I'm skeptical of counteroffers, b/c all that did was put your current company on notice to look for your cheaper replacement as soon as possible.

Nobody will remember any promises of a promotion a year or two from now and they will not put a promotion in writing anyways. Take the new offer, after a few years you might get promoted at the new job (anyways) or find another role with a promotion.

Anyone knows why there’s such a great gap in salary? Tomorrow I’ll have the interview so any comments could be helpful. Thx
