Currently at the end of the interview process for a job in Colorado that has salary posted for $115-190k and the recruiter told me that the salary range they had in mind is 130-150k , they told me they probably wouldn’t be able to go any higher. Any advice ?

Is it possible 130-150k is the base, before bonus? If not, ask if there was a change in the budget? Change in business need?

like

I’ve countered with 180-190k and the recruiter said she doubts if they’ll be able to reach that amount because at that point there would be no merit increase for me in the future but the hiring manager has to talk to HR to get a final budget for the role.

If they couldn’t go any hire they wouldn’t have said “probably” ask for 190 like the listing says and they’ll counter with 165

like

They likely have a reason, either that your experience and skills don’t meet requirements for the higher end or they want to keep pay equity with other people in that role with similar backgrounds. Most people will always ask for the high end of the range but imo very few people can justify why they deserve it over a mid range.

Most roles have a cap for each salary grade and if you’re offered the higher end it means less room for raises each year because then you’d be over the salary band. I’m not saying it’s right or wrong, but it’s pretty common to offer a bit lower so you still have room for raises.

If the latter is their reasoning, you could try to counter saying you’d take the high range knowing there’d be no merit raise for X number of years, but that’s going to be your call on whether you want to go that route.

Currently 6 years at job A at 100K and 10K annual bonus but lil to no upward mobility. It's safe if not going anywhere.

Recruiter reached out regarding Job B at 130K with greater advancement potential but it starts out at 6 Months Contract to Hire per the agency contract. No bonus, benefits adequate by comparison. There is no guarantee to go full time.

Interview just for practice?

I have a manager who doesn’t seem to like me very much. Talks to me in a super condescending tone like I wasn’t an experienced hire & know what I’m doing. He will flat out ignore me even on calls when I say hi or good morning.
I’m not sure if it’s because he’s “old school” but once had other team mates in his office (all male) for lunch and didn’t invite me (the only female on this team). I thought I had a super progressive team but every day is telling me that’s not the case.
