Currently have an offer at Cognizant Interactive. I’ve heard mixed things about the company but interactive seems to be doing well. Curious to know more about culture, growth potential and bonus payouts.

Spent 5 years at Cognizant before joining Accenture last year - I wasn’t aligned to the Interactive group (I was aligned with Cadient which is a company Cognizant acquired that provides creative and marketing services). Here is my brutal honest takeaway:

The culture is abysmal. Cognizant puts little to no effort into cultivating their employees and providing a sense of community or unity. The best word to describe how I felt working there was dispensable. When I submitted my official resignation letter through their online portal, I received an automated email with a novel of instructions about how to return my laptop, cancel corporate card, etc. no one from HR even contacted me for an exit interview or anything. And then 4 months after my last day I got an email saying I never mailed in my laptop and I owed a fee for taking company property. I anticipated that something like that might happen (their internal systems are absolutely impossible to navigate and always crash) so I made sure to take photos and provided evidence that I did return my hardware - never got a reply email.

Unless you already know someone in leadership or who is influential in the industry you’ll be in, good luck networking. In my experience, it was not a team based environment - it was all about stepping on anyone you can as you try to climb to the top. This attitude goes back to the lack of culture within the company.....and the fact that their annual reviews are structured based on a bell curve. On my team, only one person a year could get “exceeds expectations” rating and all the others received “met expectations” or “below expectations” - my team finally started rotating who would receive the “exceeds expectation” rating based on who needed the 1% raise more.

Yes - 1%. I think the highest raise I got was 4% one year and I was on cloud nine. And just forget about bonuses since they’re less than $1k.

I’m getting heated just typing this tbh. The biggest mistake I made in my career was staying at Cognizant too long. And I’ll just say that there’s a reason Cognizant wins work by being the cheapest....they know they can outsource and drive up profit margins and deliver cheap, low tier creative work because at the end of the day, you get what you pay for.

Just DM me if you have any specific questions, I could ramble on forever, haha. I’m sure if you ask enough questions I can come up with at least one positive? Just be cautious OP.....and check out Quora for employee thoughts, info about promotions and performance reviews, etc.

Hey A2, do you mind if I dm you? Recently got reached out to by cognizant

^^ THIS ^^

Thank you for adding that A3. The interactive group will be a little more diverse but there will be a heavy footprint on outsourcing (not that anything is wrong with that but it did make it challenging for our teams to create unified solutions when there is a clear cultural separation and efforts aren’t being made to create a sense of teamwork). Countless coworkers were on H1Bs and I feel like the stress of not wanting to get fired and have to return to India fuels the “claw your way to the top” mentality. As a white woman I really struggled to find my place. There was a big emphasis around eating meals together and I decided to eat lunch with some of my female Indian coworkers and I felt so uncomfortable. It felt like I was intruding and being disrespectful by being there - there were clear “cliques” among the employees and it made it difficult to find my place as an outsider

To be fair we did have a few employee outings where it felt more like a team environment but day to day, there was a clear cultural separation in my opinion.

Wow A2, sounds like a terrible experience.

I will say things are changing with the new CEO. Big push to raise rates, performance management processes, and learning / development.

I’ve only been around for a year so can’t speak too much about the history. Bottom line Cog isn’t big 4, but it’s a lot more mature than most boutiques.

I knew somebody who worked there and the environment is pretty much as A1 mentioned. Unless you are from India you won't last there very long and leave on your own as a regular employee. Also you will see allot of the Indian Caste system in the workplace from Indians who have moved in the US. Also note that Cogzinant is a major abuser of the H1B Visa system there there are numerous complaints of people losing their jobs and having to train the replacements from India. On a second note if Trump gets a second term Cogzinant might get into more trouble due to the H1B Visa and getting banned from working on government/state projects. If the pay is great and you are in management it might be worth it.

Honestly, that’s really great to hear SM1! They needed a big overhaul and it sounds like they’re headed in the right direction. I might not have had a good experience but I’m glad OP can get a balanced view of how the company is now.

Fossil fuels is a finite resource. Once we (US) deplete our reserves (of which we have substantially less than Saudi, Russia, etc.) then we will be exclusively dependent on importing our oil and gas needs. I’m amazed at the short-sidedness of some takes in this bowl. We’re kicking the can down the road on this issue. How different would this conflict be if we had depleted our reserves??? That day will come.
