I think it’ll be harder to make the switch internally from FAAS to FDD. If you go to FAAS then try to apply for FDD jobs you may be seen as job hopping. But also shoot your shot
In terms of the actual work experience and skillset alignment, going straight from audit to FDD makes the most sense (and is the most common).
If you're not into technical accounting, I wouldn't go the FAAS route. You could work on ASC 606 or write crappy memos for 6+ months straight while you hope to get put on something more transaction related.
That said, if FDD is your goal, you can make it happen. Just make it a big deal that you want to be staffed on transactions, not accounting change work. But honestly, I would recommend saving yourself the headache and just go straight from audit to FDD.
I did FAAS - TD - EYP anything is possible if you build your network. For more context been with EY for 8 years and don’t have an MBA. Good luck.
Very cool! Appreciate the insight.
I had the same offer and same sort of conundrum. Just to lay a few things out.
1. FAAS is a lot more than just technical accounting as one of posts mentions above. If you do a little digging they have a lot of different offerings so you could get exposure on projects (D&A in reporting, finance support services, transaction accounting and capital markets).
2. FDD is really glorified audit and doing lots of quality of earnings reports and tie-outs. Something I am fascinated with because of working with PE firms but from what I have heard it’s gets quite repetitive from a staff level after a year to year and a half or so.
3. Both are better than audit especially with the impending busy season. You can work in FAAS and still probably have a little technical accounting work but will have exposure to a lot of other projects.
-Would recommend reading more into it before you make a final decision.
I think internal transfer take so long 😕 and you’ll have to build up rapport in a whole new place before you can ask for the switch, I would look straight for what you want to get into
