No catch. Welcome to the points game.
If there was a catch though, it’d be that availability and pricing on the Chase travel portal isn’t necessarily the best. Some options on Kayak for example occasionally don’t show up in the Chase portal or the prices are inflated by 10-15% which means you’re getting less value.
Also, the best value comes from transferring to travel partners, not the Chase portal.
In the same boat, saving my freedom points for when I get a CSR (When travel opens up), I’ve seen multiple people post about and confirm this. In this way, the freedom unlimited 1.5% is really 2.25% on everything
No catch! I have both CSR and Freedom. You just have to transfer from Freedom to CSR (easy couple of buttons). If your spouse has a chase freedom or other similar card too worth less in travel credits than CSR, they can transfer to you as well to make the points go further when booking travel.
No catch; I merge the points to my Sapphire account regularly. Chase portal points are handy when using an airline or hotel you don't have status/points with. Also, often Chase points are better points deals with Marriott properties than than using Marriott points. With Hyatt, it is usually best to transfer points to Hyatt.
Instead of the CSR, start with the CSP. It has a larger sign up bonus, and you don't get the much more of a significant benefit with the Reserve. Otherwise, you're leaving money on the table. After a year, you can upgrade your card.
I don't think that meets OP's goals.
No catch as others have said. You also could cash out your points at $0.015/pt with Chase's pay yourself back (PYB) feature. You can cover restaurant and grocery charges with your UR points.
Do you get taxed on pay yourself back?
Wow, gonna do this now
No catch, have the combo for years now.
Freedom is 1.5% on everything (when transfer to CSR is 2.25%); CSR is 1% on other categories, when redeem for travel this 1 become 1.5%; like for like its 2.25% freedom vs. 1.5% CSR for those other categories
I’m not a huge fan of using the portals to book travel. You can get a lot more bang for your buck transferring to airline partners.
