Currently in Fixed income sales as an intern at a BB bank. My ultimate goal is a career in the hedge fund industry as PM or strategist. What would you advise me to do to break into the industry ? Is it possible despite having low experience?
Feel free to give me any advice on this career path
Thanks!!

At the end of your internship try to get on a trading instead of a sales desk. It’ll give you better accessibility to HF exit ops.

Thanks for your replies. And what do you think about improving my quantitative skills? As a Finance student it looks like python or any other programming is necessarily required to get into a HF (?) I have struggled to find HF with a more discretionary style where I would fit better, exposing trading and investing ideas and monitoring their thesis as price and time moves or as a PM

You’d even be better off as a desk analyst on Distressed / High Yield. That’s what you should target as you are still early in your career. Then you go to HF easily after 1/2y

I’m currently at a director level of a large research program in academia and oversee operations. Prior to that I was a clinical research coordinator with extensive trial experience from study startup-close out. Insecure about my IQ. FSIQ is 115, with GA 140 - I feel smart trapped in a stupid body because I can’t shit done quickly. I’ve had to work 2x as hard as others to get to where I am, but feel like a complete fraud now.

Which offer should I accept? Currently staff 2 at big 4 in Tax with CPA license. I want to leave tax ASAP. Both are public companies +1B in revenue and same salary. Offer 1 - staff revenue accountant so reading contracts, speaking with the sales team and legal team, a lot of work at the end of the months to close books and reconcile transactions to make sure we are ASC 606 compliant. This track usually leads to director of revenue. Offer 2 - internal audit staff so SOX and compliance projects.
