Hi fishes, in urgent need of your suggestions.
One of my friend is having offer from Oracle Pune for software developer role in Oracle store team. but he does not have clear idea of the role whether it will be operations, support or development work.
Does anyone know what kind of work is there in store team. Also, is it possible to change the project once we get inside?
Urgent suggestions required...
Thanks!

Number one is just to make sure you run a background check and check references (and ask in depth questions to their prior family's about their punctuality, behavior, communication skills, proactivity, coachability, etc.)
Other questions for the nanny:
1. Confirm availability, how they'll commute, what their other commitments are (e.g., do they take night classes? Have to pick up their own kids? Etc)
2. Flexibility staying late (especially suddenly if you have meetings running long)
3. Experience and skills
4. Expectations around how they should spend their time when the child is napping
My husband, an ex-consultant, also threw out some case interview type questions to her 😉 e.g., imagine a scenario where XYZ occurs, etc.
The Park slope parents website has lots of good info and sample contracts /agreements that you can download and edit to your needs. Very helpful whether you are in NYC or not.
Second the scenarios especially around emergency situations and discipline. Ask what they liked most and disliked most about previous jobs. Ask for chronological work experience and additional references. Sometimes people with give you references from several years ago or there will be a large gap. A lot of times it’s because there was an issue. Call references for the past 5 years of work experience. Ask what children normally like about them
I second everything C1 said, and would also recommend that you have the potential nanny babysit some first, before you commit- you can learn a lot pretty quickly about whether there may be issues further down the road
Sign a contract. Specify days off. Example- does nanny expect to be off just bc ur off from work? Vacation - if nanny gets 2 weeks vacation then maybe require nanny to take one week when you do.
We ultimately had to switch to a nanny after daycare hours didn’t work. Was really bummed bc want me kid to be social and independent. So it was really important to me that our nanny found play dates and had him around other kids his age. Also wanted to make sure he had some learning engagement like he did in daycare. So we found a nanny who was willing to take initiative to find playmates and bring him to music class, learning centers and libraries. He now has a schedule that is nearly as enriching (if not more so) than a curriculum at daycare. So if this resonates with you - a woman / man who takes initiative and can align with your vision (ha!) on development is ideal. For me this game more naturally with women who were mothers themselves and not 22 year olds out of undergrad.
