Currently interviewing for a pre sales SE position and part of the process involves giving a mock presentation and demo. I have been given access to a sandbox environment but not a ton of guidance beyond that. Does anyone who has been through a similar process have any advice to share? I don’t come from a sales/ pre sales background so this is new to me.

I would just change high level details. They’re not looking for your technical prowess but ability to tell a cohesive story.

Change the names and high level details of the records you plan on clicking and leave everything else as is. They’ll want to see how you demonstrate value as you go through the process, not a training or narration of the click path

The biggest thing they’re looking for is your ability to take something technical and talk through the business value. A great SE avoids doing a feature/function demo and instead shows why the technology is valuable/what business problem it helps to solve.

Depending on the company/vertical, they may also be judging your general technical aptitude (how quickly you’re able to pick up some of the basic concepts, nothing crazy). That’s not always the case but I’ve seen when I’ve interviewed for roles that didn’t align to my technical background.

I would also reach out and ask them for guidance. This can help them see how interested you are in the role.

Any good SE is going to lean on their team to help solve problems. No one knows everything. Reaching out shows a lot more than trying to do it in your own.
Depending on the product you may even be able to find a technical demonstration online.

100% agree - you're not meant ot be alone in this. I think it's very much around how you navigate the product, what you prioritize based on what you know about the demofraphic etc

Understand the technology as much as possible beyond just a rudimentary understanding. Know it enough to answer technical questions. Make sure to ask questions to your interviewer to try to uncover pain points and frame the demo around value realization more then just showing features.

Big thanks to everyone who replied - this was super helpful. Got the offer today. Super stoked!

For doing all this they have not even clearly offered me a promotion, raise or a change in position. What should I do?

I have been in SMB and MM sales but just started an Enterprise AE position. I’m working on email templates and am curious if any other Enterprise AEs would recommend separate email templates for companies with 250 users vs 1000+ users? My manager recommended setting up separate email templates but. I usually just have 2-3 generic plug and play templates that I tweak based on conversations/typical pain points. Just want to see if there’s a case for separate templates that I might be missing

So I’m planning on leaving my position before school starts, but the application and interview process has been slow. At this point I’m afraid I won’t find a job until late July. Should I let my school now and let them post my job as an anticipated position? I’d hate for them to have to find someone last minute, but I also want to keep that school as a fall back just in case. Unfortunately, it’s a terrible position and there has not been a lot of interest in it in the past.

I got selected in Infosys and offer was about to get release today but at last minute suddenly today infy HR told I was interviewed 5 months 20 days before in infosys so they cannot proceed now as 6 months cool off period. I am AWS cloud architect with 10yoe. For just 10 days difference they are stopping my offer even when I can join immediately in a week.. Please help in this situation what to do

For those of you in commercial real estate groups at big firms, what do your hours usually look like? How frequently are you working nights & weekends? I’m at a midsize firm and, since the timing of my deals is pretty predictable, I work long hours during the week but can usually avoid a lot of weekend work (until closing week). I’m entertaining some interview offers from bigger firms and wondering how anomalous my current experience is (4th associate, for reference).

Sales engineers, or any one in a Presales tech engineer role. How do you deal with a sales rep who used to be a a sales engineer? I know that is vague. I have been doing this for a while. I even dabbled in multiple sales roles at smaller companies. My issue is not agreeing with their approach at times. It could be a clash mostly in style. Might be my ego. Just wanted to a chat going. Side note. I mentor folks who are starting as SEs but sometimes the mentor needs to be the mentee.
