Nope. You do you. If I get a better offer right now I would 100% leave. Pwc pay bumps in deals have really priced me out of a lot of possibilities though
OP - I feel you and i was in a similar position where i could handle audit but now it’s busy season after busy season with all jobs understaffed and all pressure falling on me from partners to junior team members relying on me as i was the only continuity on team. I realised that the only benefit from this is to the firm and partners who are able to deliver and get that revenue and profit while I become the teacher coaching newbees and not learning anything myself. Also, don’t see this doing for next 3-4 years if the resourcing situation stays the same(which it seems it might). I am now moving to AAS so if you dont want to go to industry and like accounting, it might be worth a try as there is no busy season as such(though projects can have different timelines) and still have growth opportunities pf PA.
Why would you be an a-hole for taking charge of your own career. If it was up to the firm, there would never be a good time for you to leave (unless they're firing you). Do what's best for your career.
I really don't think any job that does this to you is worth it. Life is too short to do a job that impacts you this negatively in your personal life. The grass can be greener and it can also not be. Look carefully and ask the right questions to see if it's a good fit. There's something out there for you and you'll be much happier when you find it.
Feel great for taking control of your mental health. Delegate as much as possible and interview. But don’t settle for any company simply because you’re in a bad place. Take time to find the right one.
This
They’ve fired/coached out people before. This is not a family with unconditional love, it’s a business relationship. If one side is dissatisfied, a change is made.
Man, that's good to hear. I think I'm in a similar boat and had a decent amount of guilt about it at first too. I think at the end of the day, we got to do what's best for us and those we care about!
Currently in the midst of doing this myself. Wanted to have a job lined up for when I go but thanks to a few things (my pickiness being one), I’m taking a risk and just leaving. Been feeling the same way as you but it is just not normal to be constantly stressed and anxious.
Why do you even have this question?
If you’re ambitious enough and self motivated, you’ll be fine wherever you go in whatever you choose to do
Wait until you see their reaction for putting in your notice. You'll know you made the right decision.
They actually kept touting a LOA if I needed it. Like, no. I need a new life, not time off. I appreciate it and the sentiments but also I can't man a job with literally half of my staff as first year rotationals (team of 10). I am not getting anything done right now and I'm going nuts. Also, found out through another bowl thread that even with the mid year raise, an S1 is making more than me (S3) and at this point, I'm kinda like make that S1 lead because I'm not doing this for peanuts and sacrificing my sanity all at the same time.
