I'm not single nor male nor LGBTQ; however, when I was moving down here, my gay male mentor told me that there is a pretty large gay scene and a fairly active drag scene here in the city. Chiming in since I'm not sure how many replies you'll get

Same as C1 (not LGBTQ/male) but just agreeing here — I lived in midtown and was there (10th & Piedmont) when Obergefell was announced. Very vibrant gay community especially inside the city proper (not sure about surrounding communities/Burbs).
I like it a lot. Been here for 5 years. Found my now partner. There’s honestly not as much a vibrant bar scene compared to Chicago but you’ll find what you’ll need. What don’t you like about Chicago?
Just be aware coming to Atlanta - crime is out of control, mayor doesn’t care since she won’t be running again. Definitely something that needs to be addressed.
I grew up in Atlanta, so the gay scene just seemed natural to me. I was shocked when as adult I traveled to other cities up north and saw the lack of open acceptance to diverse communities. I would remove that concern from your list as far as Atlanta goes and look at your other concerns. For instance, the metro is overly dependent on motorized transportation. A city of our size should have a better developed infrastructure.
I recall Atlanta is the US city with the third largest LGBT community as ranked by % of population (behind SF and Seattle). It’s basically gay mecca for all the South, lol.
The gay scene in midtown particularly is the largest in the city, plenty of gay bars, clubs, nightlife.
Move to Atlanta!!! Lived in both. The cold in Chicago was horrible to me. I also found Chicago to feel far less diverse than Atlanta. I know that both cities are segregated, but in many areas, it feels like you’ll see people of lots of different backgrounds here. I do miss the walkability of Chicago. But that only lasts for 6 mo at most due to the cold. I also felt very unsafe in Chicago. I lived in Lincoln Park near some expensive stretches but there were reports of several muggings and even a sexual assault right down the road from my apartment. People talk about Atlanta crime, but I don’t feel unsafe at all here compared to Chicago. Obviously everyone’s experience is different. Atlanta is not perfect. But there are many positive things and it is a growing, vibrant place. And depending on your political views, you also have the opportunity to make a difference by moving here!
Agreed.
Great city for working professional gay men. I think our social scene is a bit in flux but I will say the balance of quality of life, reasonable cost of living, ease of travel using ATL, and a large gay community makes it a balanced place to live. That said, very cliquey and it can be hard to find your place but once you do... it’s a solid home. Also - not just bars and clubs to get involved with you can do board work, philanthropy, club sports, etc.
