With the bonus, would the counteroffer seem tangible? It's easier to stay and keep your connections, plus if you reject the counter it'll be harder to come back later if you wanted to
35% is a lot higher. Cash is King. Fast track in guaranteed
@A1 It definitely puts in more close to a range worth considering. With bonus it would be 115 vs. 135 (wouldn’t get a bonus this year at boutique) then end of next year if I did get promoted it would be pretty much close to neck and neck. Boutique firm has more SMEs in my specific area, but do have a lot of good relationships at current firm as well as flexibility
Made a very similar decision to leave big4 to jump from 90k to 135k. Have not regretted it as it still saved me at least two years of playing the game at my big4 firm. They can tell you “fast track to promotion” all they want, but I’d take the cash in hand now. Good luck!
Good advice
take the cash in hand, if you’re at big 4 you can always come back after a year or two if you don’t like the smaller firm, and they’ll pay you more too.
And fast track to promotion next year which would put me about in line with the offer. Thoughts??
@D1 and @SM1 well really it’s only a difference of 17k for total comp considering the 15% bonus if I stay (won’t get a bonus this year at the other firm), 401k matching and stock bonus that I wouldn’t get at the boutique firm...
I made move from 85k to a newer consulting firm not necessarily boutique per say. Now I'm at 127k and the small firm consulting vibe is much better. However my firm preaches better bonus than B4. Minimum 20%
