Your first sentence rendered anything that followed irrelevant because the language you chose comes across as selfish/entitled, even if you didn’t mean it that way. The firms staffing decisions will never revolve around you. There’s value in broadening your horizons, find the value in what you’re being asked to do.

likefunny

"Broadening horizons" "Value" LOOOOL Staff aug is the real resume builder, for sure.

No. Leaders and staffing hate when people do this. Whether or not it’s being best fit or understaffed, do your part to support, learn and do an excellent job. You are building a brand and rep for yourself, and if you throw a hissy fit, all that says is that you’re not a team player, can’t learn and are unwilling to go out of your comfort zone.

likefunny

LMAO "Do your part to support, learn and so an excellent job" Worst. Advice. Ever. M1 here sure drinks the Kool-Aid by gallons. Also, shut the eff up, keep your eyes down, let your bosses control your career in ways that are most profitable and convenient to THEM, and don't voice your concerns while serving as a punching bag when something goes wrong with the project.

If you do it the wrong way, they are going to screw you. Regardless of how you frame it, they’ll find a way. Believe me I know. Consulting firms market themselves as getting a variety of experience and driving your career. To be quite blunt, it’s a load of BS now that they don’t have resources to deliver work. To be honest, interview and get an offer for work you want to do. Life is too short to be forced to do something that doesn’t align with your career goals or interests. They aren’t going to let you go anytime soon.

How big is the gap? If you’re expected to code and you don’t have those skills I’d get it but for non technical / domain specific knowledge you’ll probably be fine.

How many YOE do you have? As a senior associate I’m guessing only a few at most? If so, welcome to consulting. Your ability to work hard, be reasonably presentable, and have at least a basic level of intelligence is far more valuable than any relevant experience you think you may possess. Wait until you’re here ~5-6 years and you’ll become more than just a body to throw on a project.

How long is the project expected to last? If it’s a long term staff aug type I see where you’re coming from but if it’s 3-4 months just push through it and it’ll be over before you know it

I have a job, and I’m grateful that I do! But it makes me extremely unhappy.
