Currently senior 3 making around 170k (base + bonus). Is making a lateral move to another consulting firm for $200k (base + bonus) worth it? Work would be similar.

Why would multiple EY people lie about this? We don’t get lunch or bonuses (worth mentioning) so base salaries are v high, especially in TAS. We’ve hired managers at $220k and that’s the level above Senior so it’s not BS. OP - real danger to me is getting over-promoted. $200k base is high and will come with a lot of expectations and you won’t necessarily have the support network you currently have. The incremental difference in cash between $170k and $200k is not huge (you go on a nicer holiday maybe or buy more stuff) but my experience was the expectations increase a lot. This is absolutely cool if you’re ready for it, just be aware the increase in pressure will likely be more than the increase in money.

Bill rate for a Senior3 could be ~$250/hour, which would bring in about $500k from client for the year. Still plenty of margin left for the firm. I agree with those who have said to look at your network and your work/life balance. If you’re making that much as a Senior at EY, a firm known within the Big4 for solid work/life balance and flexibility, you need to consider the culture at the firm offering 200k. May bring lots more hours and you’ll need to start from scratch with your network

I call bullshit on the salary..

Senior 3? That’s a level before Manager, right? How many years of experience do you have? Great money! 💰

OP is not BSing.... he’s in a specialty practice, hence the comp... I’m in a similar boat too

I call BS. I know seniors at EY at 80k

like

Yea has to be.. if it's sr. Associate..EY is stupid..just doesn't make financial sense..you can't make profits paying 170k and billing clients at Sr. Associate level..

SM1: not at EY. He's not making that much.

OP I can tell so much about and I have no idea who you are. Just stick around get the promotion. Else you wouldn't last a year at the new firm. Also ain't nobody paying a senior 200k, if you were that good they will bring you in at an appropriate level.

Senior. 5.5 yrs exp. You want a copy of my paycheck as proof? Lol

No way

So.. "hypothetically" your getting paid 30k more per year..and there no difference in the work you do..and you're asking us the question if it's "worth it"...what do you want us to say? Common EY partners & HRs...you can do better than this..

Yeah wtf I don't get paid nearly that much. I'm so ready to quit after my promotion.

OP’s probably OTS. We’re rich, get a lot of job offers and not poor like you guys. Take the money OP

SC1 he’s senior 3. I’m senior 1 at EY and make more than 80k so I call your bull shit. Also, he might have an MBA and in that case he definitely does make that.

He is not BSing I am a senior 3 with the same type of salary. I have technical background....maybe that's why

I learned that male associates with around six years less experience (and significantly less responsibility) have a salary comparable to mine (w/in $5k). Do NOT claim you are "colorblind" in the workplace. 1. DE&I knowledge is now a core leadership competency. Colorblind claims will earn you the reputation of being DEI-ignorant at best & racist at worst. 2. Colorblindness within the context of workplace diversity is an obvious lie. You do NOT want to be painted as an intellectually dishonest leader. 3. Colorblind claims signal that you lack the leadership skills & vocabulary to have key conversations.
