Currently TTC and have an awesome work schedule- telework 3 days/ wk. However, don’t like the project. Moms, are you able to get work done with baby at home while teleworking?

Most companies also have it in their policies that you may not be a full time care giver while teleworking and need to provide child care for any dependents. Obviously there are occasional exceptions - when my kid is sick I can usually get 4-6 hours of work in while they’re home, but that’s over about 12 hour period.

M1 your estimates are right on!

No way; you’ll need full time childcare

like

No never

No way

like

No, you will need a nanny or daycare for the days you work at home.

like

Sorry but how would you not know this? How do you expect to care for a child (full time job) and do your job (full time job) at the same time?? Have I done it in a pinch? Yes and it sucks.

I’m with OP on this one, prior to baby it wasn’t evident to me and no i did not take a class to figure it out. Yeesh, the sass on here. Anyways OP, it is not impossible but you will be miserable and unproductive. Pretty sure babies have a radar for the most inconvenient time possible to need something or decide not to take a nap. Ensure that you have appropriate childcare if working from home

like

I could barely get work done after sending my baby to daycare... Between caring for her while she was home, prepping and cleaning bottles/food, nursing, and everything else, I'd log back in at 10 or 11pm at night to finish off whatever I couldn't get to during regular work hours (while pumping). So. No. You can't work a full time job and take care of the baby full time and expect to do either one well

like

Don’t let your company guilt you into coming back early if you don’t want to do so. Enjoy your bonding time to the fullest.

like

No you need real childcare

A friend of mine who worked for a non-profit on a low salary tried to do this and it ended poorly. it was fine for months 4-7, but as soon as they’re even slightly mobile: game over. Her work ended up really suffering.

like

Nope! You would need to hire a nanny/mother’s helper or put the baby in daycare in order to be productive

like

This made me laugh because (a) this is laughably impossible and (b) I would totally have thought this possible before I had my son! Get childcare. The best you can afford. More than you think you’ll need. It always amuses me that my non-parent colleagues still think this way, eg trying to schedule calls for my non-working day (I work 4 days a week). The idea of running a client call whilst feeding/entertaining/caring for a toddler!

like

Wow! Didn’t expect/ know this. Thank you all

Hard nope

Friends, I highlighted and denied working late because of my child. I was performing good but not in the eyes of my manager. He gave me the worst rating and my scatterplot is at the middle of quadrant 3 behind all SCON at my level. This is also because one SCON at my level is manager’s favourite and I joined recently. Can I expect some increment or what will happen to variable? Please guide me saviours!! Also my coach is supporting me and has given a very good rating.

It only took me 7 years to figure this system out.... posting in case it helps anyone else! I color coded my classes and printed off numbers according to the number of kids in my classes. I then assign each kid a number that corresponds with my gradebook. When they turn in their projects, they put their number with it. This way, no contact and I can easily see who has and hasn't turned in their projects yet. I take the list down once they remember their number.

Need support and to vent/rant….Just broke up with my fiancé of 7 years (discovered infidelity and I couldn’t get past it) Literally the week before busy season. He moved out of our home this weekend. I have a kid from a previous relationship (her dad died 2 years ago) and I’m also really worried about her. I will have no support from another parent. What do I do?

I am getting ready to send my 2 year old toddler to a toddler program next week for the first time. Have to fill out a form “bathroom waiver”, which is basically allowing teachers at the school to clean my child after a potty, including genital area. I feel uneasy about this but I know I have to let them… I assume all parents have signed such waiver?

Dads with older children: while raising your children, did your children prefer their moms over you? I know some will prefer dads over moms, but I assume majority of children out there will prefer their moms over dads… I have one child and it kinda hurts to see my child always preferring the mom over me. I know I shouldn’t feel this way, but I just do. How did you cope with such issue raising your children?
